Hi . Planning to arrive into Thailand from Laos at Huay Xai land border entry.

Confused as to whether Australians are eligible for 15 day or 30 day visa exemption if arriving via land?

And are we still able to apply for an extension once we have arrived?

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
Australians entering Thailand via the Huay Xai land border are eligible for a 30-day visa exemption, regardless of whether they arrive by land or air. This exemption can be extended for an additional 30 days for a fee of 1900 baht. However, Australians can only enter visa exempt by land twice in a calendar year.

You’ll probably come across numerous websites (and possibly even consular ones) that state 15 days by land entry. That rule stopped in 2016. Either by land or air a visa exempt entry gets 30 days. Only difference is that you’re limited to 2 land exempt entries per calendar year.

Australian passport holders will receive 30 days visa exempt either by land or airport entry, which can be extended once for another 30 days for 1900 baht.

There's no difference if by land or air. It's 30 days visa exempt.

You may only enter visa exempt by land 2 times per year.
