Paying it forward (thanks all):

Approved from the Thai Embassy Canberra, Australia - Workation category.

Documents submitted:

- Cover letter explaining business and nature of my work.

- Screenshot of Google Search results of my business

- Screenshot of my work portfolio

- Most recent invoice

- Profit and Loss statement

- Balance sheet

- Australian Business Registration certificate

Financials

- Cover letter explaining net worth

- Bank statements verifying letter

My thoughts:

- Make it easy; embassy staff don't wanna decode your unexplainable waffle of documents. Number the subsequent pages in your cover letter and explain their reasoning/purpose.

- The nature of the visa is discretionary, so build an image of your entite situation as if you're building a legal case (as you are, in many regards)

- Meaningful proof is the most important. You can't fake a strong online presence or a long-lasting business registration.

- Use an online tool to condense and compile your PDFs

My husband just received approval for his e-visa (workation) via Los Angeles (US). Should I be applying for my DTV (spouse) e-visa under his user account? Or do I create my own account to apply for the visa which will ultimately be linked to his approved visa? Thanks for any info.

DTV Success Story

I was granted a DTV visa from the consulate in Taipei. After being granted, I then submitted for my wife and 2 year old son, both as dependents, which were also approved! I applied under the workation category. Along with my passport and visa application, here are the other documents I submitted-

-3 months of bank statements

-letter from my employer stating I could work remotely and all of my work was for companies outside of Thailand

-Employment contract

-Employers Article of incorporation

-Because my bank statements were long, they also asked I submit a separate statement from the same bank account which only listed the deposits from my employer. I get paid on a per project basis, so I think they also asked for this because the payments come in on random dates so it would have been a bit tedious for them to review my entire statements to find them.

-savings account statement which had 502,000 bhat in it

-Passport photograph

For my wife and son I only had to submit their passports, visa applications, photographs, birth certificate for son, marriage certificate for wife, copy of my DTV visa, copy of my passport, and the same financials I submitted for my visa. I was told at the counter they actually probably wouldn’t need the financials since I was already approved for my DTV but kept them with their applications just in case.

My visa was granted within 24 hours of applying. The next day I submitted wife and son’s docs and visa was also granted within 24 hours. All in all my experience in Taipei was phenomenal! I know stipulations could change anytime, but for the time being, I highly recommend the Thai consulate in Taipei.

Has anyone had a DTV approved through the online application in Australia?

Interested to hear of what the requirements for paperwork were for the workation / digital nomad option as a freelancer. And how long it’s taking to get approved.

Also anyone that has had dependants (wife and children) approved also.

Thanks 🫡

DTV obtained, Los Angeles consulate. Rejected first try. Received email after 4 grueling weeks that I had not typed my name exactly the same or had added or removed a space in typing my name, so different compared to my passport. Lost the $400, nonrefundable - that hurt! No response from Thai Evisa folks about details for my rejection. LA consulate responded by email just saying the money is nonrefundable and I would have to do a new application. Applied again, though I didn't know the exact mistake I made. Carefully typed my name...

Received based on Workation. I have a LLC, incorporated a few years already, and work is now done online. I sent incorporation paperwork, local city business license paperwork, and an affidavit (Googled examples of this after reading notes on this forum) attesting I am the owner, sole worker, all work done online, will have no Thai clients, etc. Sent current account statements. Driver license for proof of residency. Copy of passport. Current photo.

Everything same as first application. Paid again. Approved this time in approx 10 days.

Here is my DTV story. I am Canadian and have been living mostly in Thailand since January, 2022. This is my 5th time applying for an evisa in Canada. 2 SETV, 2 non-ED, and now the DTV. I had planned to apply for the workation category but I had a few concerns.

1. I am a non resident of Canada for tax purposes (I don't pay income tax in Canada). I saw many posts here of people either being asked for or voluntarily submitting their tax returns with their applications. As a tax resident of Thailand with no assessable income besides bank interest, I don't really have anything to submit in this regard.

2. Most of my income is from my own company registered in Hong Kong. I saw some posts here saying that some embassies were asking for company registration documents to be notarized by the embassy of the country where the company is registered or even not accepting a company registered outside of your home country or the country where you apply.

3. The workation category asks for too much personal information in my opinion. I suspect this information may be shared with the revenue department for future income tax collection if staying in Thailand over 180 days per year. Especially if they change the law to tax income not brought into Thailand, which seems to be under consideration.

After reading many posts here I realized that the soft power medical treatment category was the best option for me. The requirements are much simpler with much less scrutiny.

I was planning to apply a few weeks before my return to Thailand in October so I could use the visa for 1 last entry in 5 years from now and get 5.5 to 6 years out of the visa (I usually spend the summer in Canada and go back in early October). However I kept thinking that this visa is too easy and surely they will change it soon to make it more difficult. The anxiety was getting to me so I decided I better apply sooner than later.

I applied to the Ottawa embassy through the evisa system on Sept 2 and was approved today (Sept 10).

For my medical treatment, I started doing immunotherapy for allergies (allergy shots) at an allergy clinic before I left Thailand. I completed 15 out of the initial 40 weekly injections for the initial phase.

I had some documents with me from the clinic because I planned to check with a doctor in Canada about continuing the injections here. I asked a friend in Thailand to go to the clinic and ask for another document showing that I have a confirmed appointment in October to continue the treatment.

After the initial 40 weekly injections, there is a maintenance phase which requires injections at less frequent intervals. I feel confident that I can justify my continued use of this visa over 5 years if immigration starts asking for proof of continued medical treatment upon entry.

For the proof of funds, I used a statement from a Thai bank account. I requested a statement for August through the SCB app and it was sent to me by email. The only complication is that the PDF is protected with a password which is your date of birth. To remove this password, open the PDF, print, and then choose print as PDF. This will create another PDF without the password.

For proof of current location I used my Canadian drivers licence.

These 3 documents were the only documents requested by the evisa system. My application was approved without being asked for anything additional. No air ticket was required to be submitted but I had to enter a date for a flight out of Thailand as part of the application. I entered around 180 days out from my fight into Thailand but I don't think this really matters. I haven't booked a flight out of Thailand yet and not sure if I will bother. My understanding is that the flight out is not a requirement when entering with a visa, it's only required when entering on a visa exemption?

I'm very grateful for this new visa category. As someone under 50 and not married, this is exactly what I needed. I applied for an "elite" visa last year before the price increase but I was denied for having a previous ED visa even though it was from a real school and I was really studying. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Saved myself 1 Million baht!

Hi apologies if these are dumb questions,

We are in Chicago,

I work remote for the US company (Analytics field) and also in the process of opening my LLC(had one before too doing ecom) and have an upcoming customer contract,

I have a proof of employment though it doesnt specify that I am remote,

Q1 will that be enough for Workation? Do I need to attach both, proof of employment and LLC/customer contract info?

Q2 in Chicago it only gives me option to apply online, so do I just attach all of it there?

Q3 I have a dependent, do i need a separate application for him? Do I file both at the same time? Attaching all the same docs for him?

TIA

Right everyone… I’ve been to apply for the DTV visa in Penang, Malaysia…

I have to go to KL to get a stamp from the UK embassy on my employment confirmation letter. For some reason payslips, a contract, and employment confirmation letter isn’t enough.

It must be stamped by a UK embassy or by your company(original document with stamp). I assume this will apply to anyone who is applying is person.

The documents needed are as follows for those applying for the workation option:

-Visa application form (you can fill this out at the embassy)

-Proof of 500,000 THB (I used PayPal statements)

-2 Passport sized photos of yourself

-Employment contract

-Employment confirmation letter with a stamp from your company or home countries embassy.

-Passport

It seems like they are ensuring there is no way people can lie about their employment or whatever with this measure… it’s a logistical nightmare though.

I recommend anyone coming to Malaysia to just apply in Kuala Lumpur as your embassy will likely be located there (check before hand)

I also called them to ask if I can provide any other documents instead of having to go to my embassy and they said no. 🙃
