I am heading back to US and Returning in November. I plan on bringing the maximum cash with me. Will I have to declare 20000 US dollars and will I have to pay taxes on it. I do not stay more than 180days in Thailand. I plan on placing in my safe until there is a better exchange rate. Advice please and thank you. Please no rude comments as I see way too many on here. What visa do I need to take to the bank to open a current account ?

I will visit over the next few years as a tourist later applying for a retirement visa when I give up work.

I am receiving 1,500,000 baht in cash from a family member in Thailand. I have an account with Bangkok Bank and I am wondering if I will have to pay tax for this cash deposit? Or will there be any trouble depositing this large amount of cash?

I have been reading up on tax residency in Thailand. From what I can find you need to be in the country for 180 days to be considered a tax resident.

I have definitely done that for a few previous years, but I was on tourist visas.

Is it possible to register as a tax resident in Thailand if you are on tourist visas?

I did not earn income in Thailand but I would prefer to pay tax in Thailand.
