TLDR : Answer Summary
Expats looking to educate their children in Thailand have several options including government schools (Thai), private bilingual schools (around 150,000 baht), international schools (starting from 400,000 baht), and homeschooling programs, which can also be pricey. The experiences shared by community members emphasize the importance of school quality and the benefits of social interaction for children. Costs for international education near Bangkok can reach approximately $25,000 per child annually, but alternatives like homeschooling paired with activities at international schools can provide a more affordable option.

In 2009, went to Wang Nam Yen (25 times), where the home of my wife is. Near Cambodia. Kids from the neigbourhood came to our porch (their parents en masse for unlimited free alcohol drinks).

We came on ANA (All Nippon Airways) from Tokyo, my daughter with me. She got (her name same as the airline) she got many presents for kids.

I asked one boy, 12 years old, he could not read 3 letters from the presents, in alpahabet as simple as "ANA" logo.

Asked another one, there is a pencil and a ruller, how long is the pencil? My wife translated. The boy had no idea what I was asking him. Could not tell how long the pencil is.

That much about Thai provincial education.

My neighbor, an American, mid 40s, Thai wife, they have 2 kids exactly the same age as yours. He has been living in Bangkok for 10 years now, legal Work Permit.

International schools (like Bangkok Pattana) are nearly the same price as in Japan. Two kids, 25K US$ each a year is a lot unless you are an expat where your company pays for the school.

He arranged home schooling program from the US. The materials (paper copies) and online access to the prerecorded lessons and tests of progress.

He also arranged that his kids go to Bangkok Pattana International School (a premium international school, they live nearby) for any non-curriculum activities (sports, drama, music, festivals...) 2- 4 times a week.

American home schooling arrangement and Bangkok Pattana extra curriculum, for both kids, the cost is about 3,000 US$ a year (both kids included) , for everything, he told me.

I will be in Thai from October 29. 2025. and will see him, can ask for the details. If you are interested, PM me.

3k usd a year for 2 isn’t bad at all. If you find more info on how u got the home schooling started, I’d appreciate it very much. I have an 11yr old daughter and 5yr old son — and pay way too much for schooling in Bangkok. Thanks either way

the thing with home schooling is you do it your way and what works for you guys. Looking at resources around you/online, tutoring, looking for groups, library visits etc it doesn't need to be like it is in actual school set times and subjects sitting in a classroom etc. Everyday is a learning day!

Will ask for details end of this month when I see that man in Thai. I remember 3,000 US a year, not sure it that is all for home schooling or Bankok Pattana school for non-teaching events comes into that or extra.

Yep schools are good depending on ur area to live. My grandson is 7 in his 3rd year here and doing fantastically.

approx cost 150.00 baht. All different nationalities and loves it. Very pleased with the school.

Private schools like Regent, Rugby and Tara Pattaya obviously more expensive .. home schooling I don’t know but personally I think actually being in school is better for the child .. able to make friends and get involved etc!

Good luck with ur decision 😃

That was her at that time, 2008.

My Thai daughter, white with some Thai features, a beauty, attended a private school (Jindapong, Bangkok, if I remember correctly). From age 4 for 6 months. She spoke Thai, the first language she ever learned.

She was shunned by other Thai kids. Even hated. There were no other foreign or mixed marriage kids that I knew of. She stood out although her Thai was native, same as other kids.

We had to stop that, Thai wife and daughter joined me in Japan, then International school.

Otherwise we would have sent her to Bangkok Pattana International school.

There are four options: government school only Thai, private bilingual school at a starting cost of 150.000 baht or international school at 400.000 baht a year or more, and then there are the homeschooling programs but they are expensive also
