What job options are available for my husband on a marriage visa in Thailand, especially in the field of teaching?

Hi there,

I’d love to ask for some advice about job options for my husband. He’s on a marriage visa and is trying to decide whether to find a remote job based in the US (most of those won’t allow him to stay in Thailand long-term), or look for work here in Thailand as a foreigner.

He has a master’s degree in biology from one of the UCs (University of California), but doesn’t have a teaching credential beyond TA experience. Would teaching biology at an international school be possible for him? We’re based in Korat.

Any advice or recommendations would be really appreciated! 🙏💛

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on job options for her husband, who is on a marriage visa in Thailand. They consider whether he should pursue remote work with US companies or seek local employment, particularly in teaching. He holds a master's degree in biology but lacks formal teaching credentials. Responses suggest he can get a work permit through his marriage visa and highlight the possibility of teaching at international schools, which typically require qualified status. There are teaching job resources available, like ajarn.com and Facebook groups, but schools may vary in their requirements.

You tell him to go back to Cali and find a job since he will make more in America. Next, you make sure he sends you half his paycheck so you can enjoy life here.

My daughter went to an Intrernational school in Japan from age 4 to 18. All teachers along the way were foreigners. Their site always has staff recruitement page, I belive they all do, in Thai too.

He could teach Science, there is many options/jobs availble as its a niche area. A degree in the field is all that is required. Some places may require a TEFL or a CELTA.

He would need qualified teacher status to teach in good international schools, however smaller/lower rep ones may take an unqualified teacher on

There a few 'teaching in Thailand' groups on FB where he can get better advice.

He can get a work permit due to being on a marriage visa/extension, just needs to find a job. There are a number of sites listing teaching jobs including ajarn.com. To work remotely legally he would have to obtain a different visa such as a DTV
