TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion provides insights for an expatriate considering a move to Thailand from the UK with a young child. Key points include the high costs of international schools, with annual fees reaching hundreds of thousands of baht, often exceeding those of private schools in the UK. Renting is strongly advised over buying, as foreigners can only lease property and not own land outright. Recommendations suggest areas like Chiang Mai for affordability and some decent schooling options, priced around THB 210,000 per child per year. Additionally, potential visa challenges are highlighted, indicating the need to check visa requirements before planning the move.

I live in Nakhon Ratchasima and my kids go to an international school. Cost is THB 210,000 per child per year.

Check visas first. You might not even qualify or be able to get in for a decent amount of time. Its not the easiest of countries to move to. Even with a thai child like myself.

International schools are not cheap, it was cheaper for my nephew to do private school in UK than my Sons education in Asia

3-500,000 gets you a decent International school up in Chiang Mai. You can’t buy a house, you can only own an apartment. As you’re a family, you likely want a house. Just rent.

As a none Thai

You can buy a house but only on lease hold from the government

Set amount of year

Only Thai people can buy on free hold

you don't have to lease from the government.

You can lease land from a Thai for a maximum of 30 years and register the lease with the local land office.

School age child and affordable are not compatible in Thailand. Any good quality international school is going to cost hundreds of thousands of baht per year.
