I am planning to go to Thailand in May. Is there any chance that the DTV will disappear by then? The visa seems incredible I don't want to miss it. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) is expected to still be available in May, though it may face stricter application requirements by then. Many users recommend applying now to take advantage of the current conditions, regardless of the long-term future of the visa. While there is uncertainty about potential changes to the visa rules, the general consensus among commenters is that the visa is unlikely to disappear soon, as it has gained significant popularity among expats and is aligned with Thailand's soft power initiatives. Some commenters also speculate about possible increases in fees and stricter eligibility criteria in the future.

Ask the Thai Parlament.

Requirements will be changing in January according to multiple friends in agencies that I have.

Dustyn Beaudoin 😂, I also had a chat with the "expert" number one , a girl called Amanda, she use to sell "visas services", she told me a few years ago, that her "sources" told her that Thailand will never have a digital nomad visa 😂, but her "sources" were very wrong , that's why I don't believe "agency friends" ,no-one knows what will happen, many gob changes, etc... Agencies always wanna sell quickly what they have, that's all. Welcome to Thailand to everyone!!

I would go ahead and apply now. It probably won’t disappear, just the requirements will get more and more difficult to provide. Price will almost definitely also go up. Good example of this is the price of the elite visa when it first came out compared to the price now. The DTV is a five year visa, you’re better off trying to get to use it for 4 and a half years starting in May then having trouble getting it at all.

You basically can't rely on anything or anyone in Thailand but I think this visa will stick around. The requirements may change though

The DTV ain't going anywhere soon. The government is still pushing Soft Power. Read this now as the admins will remove this post very quickly

@Steve *******
why would the admins remove that? 🤷

This was the screenshot he sent me of your "feedback". It's a joke don't you think?

A buddy of mine posted it earlier and got booted. This group has some strange methods of operation. Do you want input, or only what you consider is correct? You allow people to promote tax agents who are doing nothing but trying to upset expats living here. Perhaps you should clarify your rules?

— thank you for bringing this up. I understand that moderation decisions can sometimes feel unclear, so I'm happy to provide additional context as I can see your friend hasn't been fully honest with you on the matter.

We rarely need to suspend or ban members, but in this case, your friend was not sharing the link you mentioned, but rather sharing details of visa fraud, which violates No unlawful activity. This is one of our strictest rules and clearly states immediate banning from the group.

Despite this, they were given initial warnings, along with direct feedback in the comments that were removed. We have full logs of this interaction to verify. However, despite the warning, they continued to post the same story involving visa fraud and deceptive practices, which not only violate our group rules but also Facebook's Community Standards.

If you are the friend they mentioned in their "hilarious" (their words, not ours) story of visa fraud and abuse, please let us know so that we can forward it to the relevant authorities for further investigation. I’m sure other members support the removal of any content that risks putting the DTV visa or this group's reputation in jeopardy.

Why would it disappear? It's been a huge success
Justin ********
Roberto Stephen it's not about "success", if they issued 180 days visa on arrival that would also be a "huge success". Govt cares about public perception of not having abusive long term residents "owning" the place. In practice that's pretty vague but yeah they always reign stuff in that's too good to be true lol

@Justin *******
I think you'll find the DTV is here to stay! The Thai government is still pushing the "soft power" agenda. It seems to be only a few salty expats who are casting doom and gloom! Meanwhile a friend of mine just got a five year visa by providing five dental appointments! What a cackle! Loving it!
Rob *********
Roberto Stephen Success? How you know that? I never saw less tourists in 8 years (apart from COVID times of course), after COVID the economy fell down and less tourists came to Thailand. Maybe in the digital nomad areas like Chiang Mai more tourists with laptops? Not sure, but not where I am.
Andy ************
@Rob ********
DTV holders are pouring into Bangkok. Three condos in my building which have been empty since covid have been snapped up by DTV'ers. The Thai landlords are loving them. That's just one building. They're everywhere. This Visa has taken off like no other. It's not just digital nomads, I know two retirees who have switched from non-O to DTV because of the easier conditions. I plan to do the same next year when my current non-O expires
Rob *********
@Andy ***********
Cool, that's good news! In Hua Hin not many tourists with laptops.
Andy ************
@Rob ********
Last time I was in Hua Hin I didn't see anyone under 90 years of age 😆. I don't think it's the hotspot for DTV'ers
Rob *********
@Andy ***********
Yeah you are right, less than 60 have many 😂
Werner ************
@Roberto ********
it will have requirements changed longer course requirements, higher fee etc - yes it’s popular but it’s canibalizing other visa classes such as the marriage and retirement visa etc which wasn’t the intent
Luit *****************
@Werner ***********
It is not really an complete alternative to marriage and retirement visa, it still is an extended tourist visa.
Werner ************
@Luit ****************
it’s not meant to be a alternative that’s the point - even if it’s 5% changing from marriage or retirement to DTV it’s likely they will implement some changes, at least that’s what I heard at the immigration office since people on marriage and retirement are changing their visas etc
Roberto *********
@Werner ***********
Nothing's going to change. I laugh at how expats have suddenly become the masters of this DTV. From day one expats have been saying it's going to change, but nothing has and nothing will
Justin ********
I won't need mine until June. I decided I'm confident they'll make it harder and harder to get each year if not cancel it. So I applied immediately- and will use it this year just for a short 90 day stay. yes I lose one year but so what? Later I may not be eligible at all and the Elite visa is way too poor of a value (since I would only stay maybe 18mos total). You should get it this year even if you just come for a week.
Rob *********
@Justin *******
Thailand is the one who put the rules, and they can change any time. In my personal opinion after staying here for a few years, I saw many things changing for one day to the other, welcome to Thailand 😆.
Robin *********
@Rob ********
I remember when restaurants in Bangkok had to open and close on a weekly basis in 2021 😀

@Robin ********
I also remember when gancha was fully legal and now almost punished 😂 (in less than 1 year ), and many things...

Justin Wilson you are right thank you ! I’ll apply now 😁
Luit *****************
@Nathan *******
Be careful then that you give an expected entry date within 3 months, otherwise they might just cancel your application.
Tore *********
Anything can happen, just apply now. You have 5 years to use it anyway
Tore *********
@Michael ********
validity IS the “enter by date”
Robert ***********
@Michael ********
There is no enter by date on my DTV. Not sure where you are seeing that
Tore *********
@Robert **********
enter by is 5 years. Its a 5 years validity visa
Robert ***********
@Tore ********
Not what he meant. And I am well aware of my visa terms
Tore *********
@Robert **********
then why you ask where you see the enter by date 🤷🏻
Robert ***********
@Tore ********
Feel free to point out where I asked to see the enter by date.

I was replying to Michael Hay II. And he said that there is 90 days must travel by date. There is no such thing on DTV. I was making a clarification.
Tore *********
@Robert **********
Got it. And i was just pointing out they are the same thing. Whatever comment you replied to was deleted, i guess that’s where the confusion comes on. Without context thats what it looks like you are saying. All good though

“Michael Hay II There is no enter by date on my DTV. Not sure where you are seeing that”
David *******
Why wouldn’t you just apply now then???
Andi ***********
Won't disappear in May, rules likely be more strict to apply by then.
Rob *********
In Thailand things change very quick, everything 😆
Justin ********
@Rob ********
I'm just wondering if they're going to start punishing those who got dtvs later on. It's not without precedent. It was completely within the confines of the law to get covid extensions yet the year after they wanted to punish you for having done it. It's not a country that can be taken seriously! The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing!
Pete *******
Why wait? Apply now.
Michael *********
@Pete ******
there is an “enter by date on any Visa”, normally 3 months, lest it is cancelled
Pete *******
@Michael ********
the enter by date is 5 years from issue.
Robert ***********
@Michael ********
Again here is DTV. No enter by date.
Greg ********
@Pete ******
That would be my advice too. I can not see it going but I can see barriers to entry being raised.
