Will my DTV visa application be approved if I only have investment funds and not enough cash?

Hi everyone,

Now that Thailand has returned to their 30-day visa exemption rule, I am considering an application for a DTV visa.

I work mainly as a freelancer, and I have bank statements showing a stable income. However, I do not keep a lot of money in cash. I invest almost everything in ETFs and stocks immediately and only keep what I need for my living expenses. My investments exceed the 500k Baht requirement by a considerable margin. My cash statements do not exceed the required amount.

Will they still approve my application? Or should I not even bother applying? I am currently in India and will apply through Chennai. I am a German citizen.

Thanks!
Answer summary
The user, a German citizen applying for a DTV visa from India, is concerned about whether their application will be approved given that they have substantial investments but not enough cash in their bank account. The community responses emphasize that Thai visa requirements typically demand liquid cash, urging the user to convert part of their investments to cash and keep it in their account for at least three months prior to applying. They note that the specific requirements may vary by embassy, highlighting the necessity to meet the 500,000 THB cash requirement to enhance the likelihood of visa approval.

You should take out the equivalent of 500k THB (12-13k euros) and keep them in your bank account for at least 3 months before applying. It's not a "strict" requirement but this is what embassies want to see and they have the right to reject you for whatever reason. You may also want to check what exactly the Chennai embassy asks for, as it varies from embassy to embassy. Some embassies may call you for an interview.

You have to sell some of your investments for cash, and hold for 3 months. Had to do this earlier this year, missed out on thousands of dollars of gains, but it’s part of the process. Don’t even bother if you can’t show cash.

No, you need cash. It's a core requirement.

You mean when it returns to 30 days - it's still 60.

WOW. He has a personal Royal Gazette, not like us normal visitors who has to wait for the Thai government.

What has visa free to do with illegal working in Thailand?

What has cash to do with money in the bank?

IF you can NOT meet the requirement of having 500.000 Thb in a bank account, the answer to will they still approve should be NO.

Your choice to apply, not ours to make.

Needs to be liquid cash….. take it out of investments for 3 months and let it simmer !

It shouldn't be investment, here is an example of what is asked in HCMC:
