What are the qualifications and requirements for the DTV Visa, particularly regarding the ฿500,000 funds and application options like 'workation' or 'freelancer'?

Hi everyone, this is kind of a long question so please excuse me.

I wanted to clarify the qualifications of the DTV Visa. I would be applying for that in Taiwan, which is where I’m currently living at. In fact, I heard the embassy here is rather smooth and easy to deal with compared to other places.

What I particularly wanted to ask about was the ฿500,000 qualification. I’m not sure whether it makes a big difference which option to check between “workation” or “freelancer”, is one option easier to use than the other?

Also, when it comes to proving that you have the ฿500,000 does it matter how long it’s been in the account? In other words, if I just transferred it, and it shows that it’s been in the account for just a day or two, would they give me a hard time?

How strict are they when it comes to proving that you work as a freelancer? In my case, I would be doing private tutoring online, in addition to investments, but I’m not sure if they care about how much you’re bringing in per month for that job, or they only care to see if you’re working at all? If they don’t care, then I guess all I would need is proof that I’m working for that employer?

Sorry for the long question, and thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on the qualifications for the DTV Visa while living in Taiwan. They inquire about the significance of selecting 'workation' versus 'freelancer' as application options, and whether the ฿500,000 in funds must have been in their account for a specific duration before application. They also question the strictness of proving freelance work, particularly for online tutoring, and the need for showing income proof versus just employment verification. Comments suggest checking with the embassy regarding fund seasoning requirements, which might be around 90 days, and the importance of aligning the application purpose with the selected option.
90 DAY REPORTING RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Use the trusted Thailand 90 Day Reporting Service to get your in-person report done and mailed to you for as low as 375 THB (even if the online system doesn't work for you).
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.

Of course it makes a difference which option you check. You apply for the DTV for a purpose and it is issued to you for that purpose. If you intend to work remotely from Thailand then you need to use the workation option. If you won't work but instead will follow one of the soft power options then you apply for soft power

I believe the soft power will be soon much more scrutinised by immigration while workcation less so. I would certantly apply for workcation if only eligible to do so.

I can’t find any information about whether they care how much you bring in per month for the “free lance work”. In my case, part time private online tutoring.

there is no financial requirement as long as you can provide proof of a trading activity. The only financial requirement is the 500,000 k baht deposit.

I think the money needs to be in the account for 90 days. You can check the amount of time on the visa website.

If you're not paying for any courses, then you can't choose the sort power category.

do you happen to know the standards as far as how long you need to stay in Thailand to qualify for those classes? For example, someone like me may only stay for three weeks a month and then come back.

@Jeremy *******
it depends on the Embassy, some embassies require a 6 months course at least, some others don't care about its length.

The embassy will let you know the seasoning period for the money usually in 1 acct that is easily accessible to pay bills etc

If you do it wrong from the standards of the embassy you’re going through you just donated ฿10k to the Thai government

It might be easier to just go the soft power route as it streamlines the process making it way easier

Sorry for the silly question, but the soft power route is the option for taking up classes like Muay Thai, etc.? If so, would that mean they wouldn’t even check my credentials for making money as a freelancer?

@Andrew ********
yes the soft power route is a class like Muay Thai cooking

No they would only want to see the ฿500k in a bank acct for the seasoned period

It’s much easier process with less paperwork

It’s basically the same visa either way you go…just the workcation is way more intensive with paperwork…while the soft power is more costly due to the cost of the class you want to buy
