When visa exempt finally reverts to 30 days. Can you still get a 30 day extension?
Answer summary
The recent discussion centers around Thailand reverting the visa exemption duration from 60 days back to 30 days, effective from September 15, 2026. As per the comments, it is expected that travelers will still be able to apply for a 30-day extension on their visa-exempt entry, based on past practices. However, there's confusion among the community regarding the rules and requirements for extensions, with some suggesting that extensions can cost around ฿1900 and are subject to approval based on individual circumstances such as travel history. Some commenters advise that applying for a tourist visa before arrival may be more beneficial. The situation remains dynamic as visa policies can change frequently.

The change from 60 to 30 days has been published in the Royal Gazette today, as of August 31. It will be in effect 15 days later, by September 15.

Keep in mind only 60 countries remain from the former 93 countries whose citizens are elegible for visa-exempt entry.

It's no big deal. Japan and Vietnam and Malaysia and many Asian countries over 90 days. It's Thailand being friendly to help tourism to other countries. They are proud of their low economy and decline in tourism. There was article a month or two back by a gov official and he challenged the law makers to prove their calculation that crime will go down and bring in guality tourist. They have no facts.

OP
I'm UK citizen, going in November with a 60 day tourist visa which I'll extend by 30 days then a a trip to Penang for a few days then, hopefully, a 30 day visa exempt with a 30 day extension. I don't do UK winters. These will be the only visa exempt plus extensions in the last 2 years

In case you don’t realise, tourism is way down in Thailand, the 60 days free exemption allows people like me to leave the Australian winter and travel through out Thailand and support the Thai economy, cabinet approved a change back to 30 days in May , but it still has not been published in the Royal Gazette as yet , so it’s very hard to plan a holiday in Thailand atm , that is hurting their tourism, just make a decision, but going back to 30 is not a smart move, there is so many people like me who enjoy the 60 days, and my money is happily spent in Thailand, but I am prepared to take it elsewhere.

And I’m a man , so I don’t wear nickers , but I don’t know about you .

People are untitled to their opinion

It depends how many time you ask for extension 30 days.

Some people reports you get the 2nd time only 7 days; don't know if they calculate on a yearly base (calendar or rolling on year).

A post is a comment on this thread?

A post is a new post in the group?

I can't see anything relevant anywhere in either of those.

And I have tried sorting the posts and comments all the possible ways.

But you do you, boo.

I'll stick to what the Gazette website says.

Not saying it won't be today, just saying it hasn't been *yet*.

The website is the official Gazette. So until it appears there, it is not officially Gazetted.
