TLDR : Answer Summary
Three individuals attempting to apply for retirement visas (Non-O) in Savanakhet were turned away due to strict requirements for proof of banked funds. Participants in the discussion highlighted that the only Non-O visas that had previously been issued without such proof were those based on marriage to a Thai national or for raising half-Thai children. There are also mentions of ongoing frustration regarding the lack of clarity about changing immigration policies and the necessity for applicants to familiarize themselves with visa requirements prior to applying.

Please stay on topic and just to remember you these finances of minimum 800.000 Thb in a bank or 65.000 Thb monthly income are set in 1998. Yes, that is 21 years ago. With small homework you could have know if it was possible for you to stay inside Thailand and meet this requirement.

The ONLY two Non-O visas they issued there before without proof of funds were ones based on marriage to a thai OR raising half thai children.

@Tod ********
Has that changed? You used the word “before”.

@Pie***
tried to apply for a 90 day single entry Non-O from Savannakhet but was denied. He HAD documentation showing sufficient funds.

He was told that they no longer issue them there. I dunno if it's a policy change or what.
Karma ******
You mean the show money?
James ********
Karma Deki No...just meet the requirements for the visa. And be prepared to show 20,000 Thai baht OR equivalent in CASH if asked at border or reentry by Thai Immigration...plus proof of booked place where you are staying...and a ticket out of Thailand at end of the approved visa.

@Tod ********
Can the ticket be of any other countries or should the ticket be towards my own country?

@James *******

Ron Angel Spelling mistake—I meant touts. Fixed.

Touts ARE the people outside who sell their services to help you screw your fellow expats.

(Anyone wanna know how I REALLY feel about this?)
Ron *******
@John *************
in fairness it isn't the tours. It's people outside doing it
John ********
Ron Angel So, if you’ve got the money, you can screw people trying to legitimately follow the system, and push them further back in the queue.

The touts are despicable and so are those who use them! IMHO. 555

It was pointed out that they are being over worked MONDAY especially. Presume it's pressure from appointment system up VTE in place

As.sure as an egg is an egg this will drop South to Savenekett very soon

i was just reading a report that as from this Monday the touts are back working at Vientiane. Now asking 7000 baht but takes 3 days to get a booking.

Touts apparently working at Savannakhet too. 3000 baht to jump the queue as it's apparently now busy there.

I was going to tell them

But decided to let them see the countryside on the overnight bus . And find out the hard way

If complaining about the small cost of a 12 hour bus ride . Is a major concern.

. I guess it's time they flew back to Blighty and the dominoes CLUB

@Tod ********
like an air ticket or sth?

@Karma *****
you'll be fine applying for a tourist visa at Savannakhet, just remember they require proof of 20K baht or the equivalent in a thai bank account and can ask for proof of onward travel in 60 - 90 days too.
Karma ******
Declan Jamrs Theodore I need to come there in few days to get a tourist visa. And its not my first time. I am completing my non b here and coming there for a tourist visa. Looks like i should hit Ventaine and not Savanaketh.. 😟
Ron *******
That won't do them any good going off too Vientiane unless they fancy a long holiday there. Without an appointment, they won't even get through the gate.
