The Thai consulate at Vientiane were quite insistent on seeing a bank book for my 3 month non o visa application today. I said I don't have one I have money 20-30k sent by western union in cash every month from home. He said next time he wants to see the bank book of my ex wife. (The visa based on my kids). I think only my fluent Thai saved me..I won't be going there again.

Thanx for the update (y) you're not the only person to be asked for proof of funds next time when applying for a 90 day Non-O visa based on raising half-thai children.

Western Union can send money directly to bank account.

I just applied in Shanghai as I work there for the same Non 9 based on kids. I asked for a 1 year multiple but they said only a 90 day single could be issued. But if I applied for 3 of these, the fourth would be a 1 year multiple..

I think you might be able to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O from the thai consulate in Penang with 400K baht in a bank account (no seasoning required) and MAYBE you could get it at Kota Bharu as well. BUT I think Vientiane is shutting it down slowly but surely without proof of funds for that 90 day Non-O

Your ex wife's bank book has nothing to do with it if your visa is based on Thai child. They can ask you to show your bank book though

Are there alternative Consulates or Embassies to apply without financial requirements?

Savannahaket..all the tour vans go there now. The border was dead this morning. I arrived at the consulate at 8:15 and I was the first there.
