My application was rejected.

Does anyone understand what this means?

I’m a Canadian citizen by birth.

Have been living in the United States for 14 years and became a citizen about 6 years ago, this is now my main and primary residence and where I work.

So my American passport says Canada for place of birth.

In my DTV application I provided my American passport and my drivers license for proof of residency

But I also included my Canadian passport because I’ll be flying from Canada to Bangkok and I thought I should include it.

Obviously that was wrong.

Any advice for what I should do when I reapply?

I suppose I should only include my United States passport and not my Canadian?

Thank you for any guideance. 💗
Answer summary
The inquiry revolves around the rejection of a Dual-Trip Visa (DTV) application from a Canadian citizen, now a US citizen, who mistakenly submitted both US and Canadian passports in the application process. Community responses advise solely using the American passport, highlighting the complications arising from dual citizenship and the importance of consistency in documentation. Suggestions also include reapplying correctly with just one passport and supporting residency evidence.

You need to decide which passport to use and stick to that ONE passport ENTIRELY during travel and stay.

It could be something as simple as your name on your application is mixed up your first name, middle name surname you put something in the wrong box on the application. It could be something as simple as that.

I would say whatever passport you use is one where you can support your home address and only use one if you have a home address with each passport still choose one passport and one home address

Thai US consulate is in error. US citizen with US passport applying in US shouldn't be a problem. Processor obviously looked at the Canadian passport when they should have been viewing the US one. Ask for a review of their rejection. Where to go from here depends upon their response (or lack of it).

Jay Jay Trollslayer Christopher the Troll, why should US consulate be in error, submitting an extra passport of another nationality is asking for problems.

You can always ask for a review of rejection, but it certainly will cost extra time

Any reasonable person would consider the consulate to be in error.

Wait, you added 2 passports? To one Visa application? Hmmm

If doubled-citizenship applicants have hard time to apply for visas, cant fathom what would transgender applicants have to deal with. The gender on the passport do not match the photo ID?

That was wrong "But I also included my Canadian passport because I’ll be flying from Canada to Bangkok and I thought I should include it. " You must present one passport. Additionally, you must enter the country using the same passport that contains your visa.

When you entered your passport bio data (uploaded the page), did you use your American passport?

its because Thailand is famous for making something simple, turned into a complicated bureaucracy of red tape, rejections and endless questions - not to mention paper forms / documents in triplicate singned in blue ink, on every single page. Welcome to Thailand.... Yes resubmit and hope that your 2 passports are now not "stuck" in the system - once something is "broke" you will end up in an endless Thailand Do-Loop trying to get it rectified.

As your life is now in America, just resubmit with the U.S. Passport and any other U.S. residency documents as requested. Nothing more, nothing less. Too much information muddies the water and makes it hard for the government workers to parse through.

Yes you are right. Just use your American passport. No need to make it more complicated

It’s interesting to watch people struggle with small little technicalities over and over again. Not trying to be a tool here, but I used an agent, the fee was about 180 bucks, and I got my DTV a few weeks later. After I signed up, I provided my information, and the agent took care of the rest. It was a completely stress-free experience. I share this because if everything in your application is not perfect, if everything does not line up, if they cannot easily process your application after confirming it’s met the full criterion, you will be denied. The process will cost you much more in terms of time and effort, let alone the additional fees that one would have to pay to reapply.

By the way, obviously the easy answer is to just simply use your Canadian passport…. Seems like that would take care of the problem.

I used an agent too for peace of mind.

So many rejections are from TOO MUCH information.

The agency knows exactly what to include: not more, not less.

GentleTurkey6967 peace of mind… that was my main reason. I sent the agent my stuff and went back to life… a few weeks later, I had my DTV. No back and forth, crossing my fingers, and hoping my application would be approved, just a couple of mouse clicks and let the experts take care of it.

BTW… here is a coupon for their service - I1S94UKY.

this is really unfortunate and should not have happened (rejected) if properly checked by consular staff. The system does ask if have multiple citizenships. Sprry to hear about the rejection. Perhaps easier to reapply and just use one passport and not provide other's details.

It doesn't matter what passport you use to leave wherever you are by air. Although the airline might want to use/see the US passport since that's the one your Thai visa is tied to. Only submit the passport you're using to enter Thailand. From what country did you submit your criminal record check?

Sounds like you over thought the whole thing keep it simple your whole story was very very complicated and confusing.

If you applied in the US, you only show your US passport because that is what the DTV will be attached to. By including and referring to your canadian passport, that really muddled the issue as it likely said your nationality was canadian and the DTV was never going to be attached to it anyway.

a manual review should still have concluded it was reasonable.

Instead they do it online probably use AI wrongly and it's picking things instead of trying to be good.

I don't understand why people with a double passport need to show the whole world they got double citizenship. Just use a single passport and avoid showing off note stuff that could be scrutinized. That's not smart. Anyways, you just learned a valuable lesson for the future

DioParco3474 Because visas for any country can be rescinded if you provide false or incomplete information. The application asks if you have other nationalities. If you say you don’t, then you’ve provided false information on your application.

DioParco3474 mate, as the author said, every other passport shows country and town of birth, which is not matching the nationally

- it sounds like under the section where you show proof of residency (gas bill, drivers license, etc. is where he uploaded his US passport bio page), but for the application when you have to upload your passport bio page and double check that your passport info is correct, he used his Canadian passport. So he technically was applying under his Canadian passport while applying via the US embassy. Nothing to do with where your passport says you were originally born

dont overthink and do not add things they dont ask for. use one passport , if you use Canadian - nationality is also Canadian .

if you use American passport - nationality is American.
