Why was I asked for my TDAC while entering Thailand if it's usually linked to my passport?

THIM and TDAC notice
Need a clearer THIM and TDAC explanation? Read the THIM guide on thim.in.th.

Can back to Thailand today ,on a 1 year extension non o .And the IO asked to see my tdac which I had on my phone .This was weird because I thought it's always linked to your passport?
Answer summary
Upon returning to Thailand with a 1-year extension non-O visa, the Immigration Officer (IO) requested to see the TDAC documentation, which the traveler found unusual since they believed it was linked to their passport. Community responses suggest that while TDAC is generally accessible via the passport, it is advisable to carry a copy or a digital version on your phone, as the IO may request to see it if it doesn't appear in their system. Many users recommend being proactive and having all relevant documents readily available to avoid any issues during entry.

I copy and carry everything. You just don't know what they will ask to see

They do have a copy, however the registration is that you bring a copy with you. They always have a complete manifest from every flight arrival, doesn't stop them asking for your boarding pass, also they have your hotel registrations, don't stop them from asking, because you're required to have all that to present to them on request.

If, for any reason, your TDAC doesn’t come up when they scan your passport, they ask to see your copy. They can use the TDAC number to search for it.

you can just snapshot the QR code you received to show them

If you apply for it when you just have landed,…it’s almost impossible to get a print in the airport,…

And nowhere is it printed that you have to print it.

Michael Riddermann Munck Pedersen That's what I thought. I've never seen anywhere where it's said you need to print it out. Even the official TDAC website says you can keep a copy of the QR code on the phone.

Chris Blunt best print it. Nobody has told me I need to breath recently but I find it a good idea.

Chris Blunt so if you lose your phone or it's damaged what do you do? Printing important stuff is always recommended.

Chris Blunt how about if your battery goes as you reach the IO because the USB in your plane seat doesn't work?

Lynnette Munoz So if you lose your paper printout, what do you do? In the case of the TDAC there's nothing to show anyway. The immigration officer already has access to the data you submitted because it's liked to your passport. We're living in a digital age now. Paper is so last century.

I never print anything out these days. I've got everything backed up to the cloud and can easily recover it to another device if one gets lost.
