Hi everyone, I have a question. If entering through Chiang Mai Airport with a DTV visa, is there a chance of being questioned or having a hard time at immigration? Has anyone had any experience with this? I’ve seen some people mention they were asked a lot of questions at the airport, so I wanted to understand what to expect.

Answer summary
When entering Thailand through Chiang Mai Airport with a DTV visa, there is a possibility of being questioned by immigration officers, as with any other airport globally. Experiences shared by travelers indicate that while some have faced intense questioning, others have had no issues at all. Generally, having proper documentation and compliance with visa requirements minimizes the chance of problems at immigration. Queries may arise regarding the purpose of your stay, especially if enrolled in a specific activity like a Muay Thai course. It can vary on a case-by-case basis, and experiences differ significantly among travelers.

Do you have to hide something that you're afraid of questions at the immigration?

There is always a chance for any human being to be questioned by any immigration authourity on any occasion, anyway in the world at anytime. But so long as you are doing everything correctly with your DTV, then there is nothing to worry about

I entered through CNX immigration 2 months ago. They saw my DTV extension record in my passport, looked unhappy, and asked if I would stay for that long again. I also had to answer which country I work for and provide documents proving my remote job.

Anonymous participant 291 Did you report this at the time? If so, perhaps you could point to your report? How did you know that the Immigration Officer (you don't mention whether the officer was male or female) was unhappy? The officer may have been experiencing indigestion (for example). How long was your previous stay? Presumably less than 180 days? Were you not curious why that was mentioned?

Shout out load: HOW DARE YOU ASKING A QUESTION?

You are unedicated, lawless corrupt Thai citizen who have NO knowledge about DTV HOLDERS. We are above each and every law you may even think of.

STAMP MY PASSPORT FOR 180 DAYS.

Please tell your experience about having a visa revoked and your stay in another country.

FOR your interest the Royal Thai POLICE Immigration Bureau are allowed to ask questions at ANY time during your entry or stay in Thailand.

I entered through Chiang Mai recently, got pulled aside once they saw that I was holding a DTV. They did ask me a lot of questions and asked me to fill out a form on site (not the arrival card but a separate form). My DTV is soft power Muay Thai and they asked me why I was interested in Muay Thai and requested to see the proof of my enrolment in the Muay Thai course. The officers spent some time examining my passport and visa and kind of having a discussion among themselves as they questioned me. They did let me in eventually, and I was like phew😅

FunPoodle5798 You appear to be suggesting that you were only 'pulled aside' because you are a DTV holder. The form that you were requested to fill out is something new and intriguing. Did you make a report at the time? It would help others be prepared if you would kindly tell us what the questions on this form were. Has your original course now expired? If so, did they also ask for proof of your current enrolment? To clarify, they asked for proof of enrolment only, not also attendance?

hopefully he attended the course signed up for. As Thai Immigration Officers have called the gym to verify that you are actively participating in the course.

There's a chance of being questioned no matter where you enter. The immigration officers are employed to ask questions not just wield rubber stamps.

Just like at any immigration at any country border in the world there is a chance you will get questioned.

As long as you comply to visa requirements and general immigration rules, that should not give you a hard time though.

I arrived at cnx airport with dtv the other week. No issues at all, the previous time I arrived there with no visa I got questioned for ages and they made me pay 3000b ‘snack money’ or go back home to my country 😂

There have been reports... Ha ha ha 😂 ok.

I have been in and out via Chiang Mai over a dozen times in the past year and not once have I had a problem. I've never seen anyone "get pulled aside" or "taken for interrogation" nor seen one credible source of this happening.

You can be expected to satisfy all the regular tourist requirements for entry to Thailand and that's pretty much it. They may ask about your purpose/what course or what your online business is out of curiosity or to gauge your reaction, but highly unlikely.

Not quite. A DTV is akin to a long term tourist visa but not exactly the same. As such, you're not expected to hold an onward ticket or show proof of hotel bookings like you would with a visa exemption or tourist visa.

The
*****
Baht in cash part is a little more nuanced. In theory, a DTV holder could be asked for this, in practice its not really a standard requirement.

It is for a tourist visa or visa exemption holder even if rarely asked for.

There is always a question of being given a hard time by immigration, no matter where you are. Such a strange question.

There have been reports of Immigration Officers giving DTV holders ‘sideways looks’. Hope that helps.
