2nd question, Do you have to have a return flight. I hear people saying they brought a one way ticket. Help
Answer summary
When traveling to Thailand, whether you need a return flight or not largely depends on your visa type and the airline's policies. Generally, for tourists, proof of onward travel is required, which can be a flight out of Thailand or a bus ticket to another country. While immigration may not always ask for this proof, airlines often do, and failing to provide it could result in being denied boarding. Some users suggest that printing a dummy return ticket can help avoid issues with airlines. It's advisable to check directly with your airline regarding their specific requirements.

Are you applying for the DTV or already on it? If applying, it is not expected. If on a different tourist Visa, you may need to have your outbound flight/bus/train within the Visa timeline. When I got my DTV in D.C. I did Not provide an outbound travel.
Proof of onward travel. You want to have that any time you go to any country where you don’t have legal residency. In the case of Thailand, the airlines ask for it more often than immigration does, but the reason the airlines do it is that immigration could deny entry without it.
Bill Hicks 41 countries and only asked once. They looked at my passport with lots of stamps and I said, does it look like I’m staying too long. They let me pass.
I've had certain airlines check in desks have problems with no return flight and no problem on the Thai end. Some folks print a set up return flight from their computer, then delete it. That seems to work.
Graham Seal We was denied boarding at check in 3yrs ago, had to quickly book an onward flight. We stay 3 months but they wanted to see our onward flight on day 59. We've been asked every year since. They said if for any reason when we got to Bangkok and immigration denied us entry it's down to the airline to fly us back...
Della F Moores the airline is where this check is usually performed so it is unusual for Immigration to ask unless they want to deny someone who has the 20k cash and accommodation booked
Depends on which visa you will enter on. Tourists should generally have a ticket out, not necessarily a return, but it's likely to be more of an issue for your airline than Thai immigration
