Without wishing to offend anyone what is the reason that commenting keeps getting turned off for posts when it's clear that the OPs question hasn't been fully answered and people have useful information to give?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the reasons why comments are often disabled on posts related to Thai visa questions. Key points include the moderators' efforts to keep discussions focused solely on visa-related issues, minimize misinformation, and prevent off-topic debates. Some members affirm that closing comments after sufficient answers is beneficial, while others argue that valuable information may still be shared by other responders after the main question is addressed. It highlights the balance moderators seek to maintain between informative discourse and the forum's purpose.

I freely admit to turning off posts as quickly as I can once the O/P has the information they require.

I can't see any reason to keep them open. Once the correct information is provided there's no need for poster after poster to reiterate it over and over OR a poster to provide incorrect information requiring someone correct them. I can't see the sense in it.

This ISN'T a "let's chew the fat" about this or that group. There are plenty of them on f/b related to thailand, go post on them. This is a group about one thing visas/extensions to thailand.

I don't feel bad in the least closing threads because I feel the people in the group do an excellent job answering questions about visas & extensions to thailand.

Remember you can ALWAYS message the admin/moderating team if a thread is closed and ask it be reopened so you can provide more information. I can't promise we'll open it back up but you can certainly ask.

Thank you one and all for your participation in the group. It's you posters who make it work as well as it does..

Okay, and as this has totally nothing to do with Thai visa advice and not one example can be given I have to close this. I will explain one more time: This is copied out of the description of this page: The page is named Thai Visa Advise, so please keep your questions Thai Visa related, if your question is not related, your topic may get closed to commenting or deleted, (with a comment why it was closed). YES, we close topics and YES we also delete topics mostly just spam. WHY we have to do this: Every step you make in Thailand is VISA related, you can NOT walk without a Visa Exempt Entry or Visa inside Thailand. If we have to answer every question and I've seen questions like: "Where can I get the best breakfast before I stand in line for a Visa", this would be a travel agent page, we have to draw a line.

Generally speaking, I think it's great how the mods close off advice once the questions have been answered.

Otherwise you get so many general comments, and potentially misinformation. People come to these pages for expert advice, once one of the experts have answered it's better if their comments don't get lost in a mountain of opinions etc.

Likewise, off topic posts distract from the purpose of the group. They could be asked anywhere, and the knowledgeable visa members get their newsfeeds clogged up with comments about hotels/minivans etc, they might not bother to check the group comments to help with visa advice as much.

Yes fair comment

I see posts closed when one of the following is true,

1. The post is not Thai visa related. Often the mods/admins will still give an answer before closing the thread.

2. The OP's question has been answered and people ramble on about the topic resulting in no further useful information.

3. The question has been asked ad nauseam and a simple search of the forum could have found the answer faster than posting the question.

4. Something where a Google search could have been used to find the answer faster. Often in this case the mods/admins will answer the question anyway and then close the thread (for good reason).

Read the description of this page, it is clearly mentioned that this page is for Thai VISA advice, not for bus rides, best breakfast nearby consulates, best hotels to stay overnight while waiting for visa, sight seeing tours while waiting for visa, this page is only for Thai visa advice. If you want other advice, sorry you have to find another way.

Yes of course I read that but just questioning if it's necessary to say that rather than just let people give her the information. She is going there for a visa afterall

Maybe read the comment I posted: Robert Lagas We are on this page for Visa advice. There is lots of information to be found on minivans and travels from Udan to the border. Sorry.

It is not a big issue and it's not a complaint, it's more of a suggestion that may benefit people. As an example commenting was turned off today for this post when she was looking for information about getting to the border for a visa and border closing times. I would have thought that is visa related
Robert *******
Nope, I see these useless comments to many times, now it is time to back up the statements people make. If you like to complain about this page, no problem, but back it up or go play somewhere else.

@Rob***
Give it up mate, it's not really a big issue

I'll second your post. Now, no dissrespect to the admins/mods but I do feel they shut down posts/comments too quickly.

Justin Lewis do you mean from old to new passport? Just talking from experience in Phuket it took me about 10 minutes, obviously depends on the queue though
James ********
@Justin ******
it can vary from immigration office to immigration office. Did you state which office you were using?
Justin *******
I inquired how long is the visa stamp transfer process and was told "I don't have a crystal ball" and shut off my post.
