What is the purpose of turning off comments on threads? Why do the moderators of this group do it so often? Does anyone else think that it is unnecessary? Is there some reasoning for it that I'm missing?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Moderators frequently turn off comments on threads to prevent discussions from going off-topic and to maintain the quality of information shared. Closing comments helps to avoid bar stool discussions and prevents the inclusion of incorrect or irrelevant information. If someone wishes to add information to a closed thread, they can contact the moderators to request it be reopened.
The reason is that many times correct answers are given and by closing the thread we prevent that the topic turns into a bar stool discussion or just loaded with lots of incorrect useless information.
