Just curious as to the point of this 'advice' page? Why do you delete replies to posts and turn off comments before anyone can get a chance to reply or ask questions? Surely, we are all here to gain as much information as possible, to help us through this strange time!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post raises concerns about the moderation practices on an advice page, specifically asking why replies to posts are deleted and comments are turned off before others can contribute. Comments from users explain that moderation is strict to prevent misinformation and confusion. It’s emphasized that once the original question is adequately answered, threads are closed to maintain clarity. Users are encouraged to contact moderators if they feel a discussion should be reopened.

Because it is not a general discussion page where everyone should comment and confuse the hell out of the person who asked the question. It is a question and answer page. If you have another question make your own post :)

And I love this page because of the strict but correct way of moderation. Although must be said some mods are bit short almost unfriendly in the way of answering. But I would do that also after 10 times the same question and the same answer.

We are strict with the moderation, and we are also not nervous to delete posts or comments, but *IF* we do delete a post or comment, it's

1. Not a "strike" against a person and not because they did anything wrong;

2. We almost always leave a note about why it was removed (either as a notice, or as a message).

So if the mods do delete a comment, check the messages
Benjamin ******
Also, for all of our members, if you believe we closed a post too soon, or there's more information you want to add, PLEASE message any one of the mod team, and we may re-open the thread. We're online a lot.
Casa ********
But new people who wants advise won't know to ask Mod team to re-open the discussion. I suggest it could be kept open for at least for 24 hrs. I too was unhappy tht you closed discussion too early. Moreover you did not let people talk about insurance requirement for OA visa, while health insurance topic is directly related and critical part of visa renewal matter!

@Casa *******
that's why I made this comment. As for insurance, there is a Thai government website that lists all the approved non-oa visa insurance agents. Each person has their own health insurance needs.

Because the follow on posts have a tendency to become mixed, irrelevant and serve no additional value after the question is fully answered

Here's the process, as I understand it, how to get a 30 day extension of stay off a letter from an embassy.

1. A person goes to the embassy and request a letter because you can't leave Thailand because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This letter will be issued *IF* there are no flights available OR there is an "outbreak situation".

The definition of an "outbreak situation" is defined by each country's Center of Disease Control, or equivalent agency, and will be stated on the letter that's issued. Do not try to argue with Thai immigration that you should stay longer because there's an "outbreak", they won't care.

2. *IF* a letter is issued by the embassy, you'll go to the local immigration office and *REQUEST* an Extension of Stay.

3. The immigration office will then either approve the request, reject your request, or tell you to return later. *IF* it is approved, an additional 30 days will be granted, starting on September 27, 2020. If it is *NOT* approved, you have to leave by September 26, 2020.

All extension of stays are 1,900 THB.

As you can tell, there's a whole lot of *IFs* and *Mays* and "Requests* in this post. Having the letter does not mean automatic approval to stay longer; having the stamp in your passport will. Unless you have that stamp in your passport, assume you can stay no later than September 26, 2020.

I have not seen any reports of anyone getting a 30 day extension from a letter yet. If you have, please make your own post.

I closed the post as answers where given and different people did start reading the rules in their own way to have a better outcome.

You can apply for a request to stay 30 days longer with a letter from your Embassy,

If the permission is granted you get an extra 30 days, NOT I get 30 days if a show a letter from an Embassy and they have to give extra time as I think the airplane is to expensive

@Robert ******
Exactly! Eg: your reply mentions 30 days extension to 25 August? 🤔

I edited with explanation and picture,

we used to leave posts on and what would happen is once someone gave the correct answer then some well meaning wing-nut would give the wrong info and start the thread all over again.

Unfortunately this isn't a come here, chew the fat, commiserate about your situation group. It's a come, ask your question, get your answer and go on your way sort of group :O

You can post on a f/b page related to where you live in thailand and have the thread run as long as you like it to :)

I appreciate that you don't want posts going off into tangents, but I clarified a point made on my previous post and it was deleted.
