Why are discussions often cut off in this visa advice group?

I find discussions being constantly cut off in this group and I cannot understand why. I am strategizing on the best way to get a retirement visa and learning so much from the discussions.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the group's strict policies regarding discussions related to Thai visa advice, particularly for retirement visas. Members express their views on why discussions are cut off to maintain clarity and prevent misinformation. The group functions primarily as a question-and-answer format, supporting focused and accurate visa information while discouraging unrelated discussions. Participants are encouraged to utilize relevant topics for more comprehensive learning.

  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

There are other similarly named FB groups, which allow more of a discussion of wider topics, if that is what you are after. This group is hard core, solid advice on the specific topics Ben listed.

I have placed three TOPICS on your post.

CLICK on each TOPIC and all posts about the topic will pop up to read.

You will learn a great deal by doing so.

I'm not really sure what you really mean with 'discussions'.. This group is based on 'accurate' advice that comes from written facts and first-hand experiences. As Benjamin stated, all members have different backgrounds and experiences. Something that works for one member may not work for another.

. It is the best thing for the admin and mediators of this site to “close commenting” after someone has required what they need. Otherwise it would end up a 💩 site like most other sites on FB.

Sorry to jump in Todd and everyone. Needed to be said.

That too. Thailand immigration laws are easy, all things considered (try looking into the UK Visa Advice group for their visa laws. Yikes!). If we don't keep this group strictly moderated, it will go downhill, fast.

We want to maintain a casual, but professional culture in the group that's helpful and supportive, and there's too many trolls that just want to cause troubles.

spot on Benny Boy. Please keep doing it the same way. Respectfully to the people that ask questions to get answers aren’t aware of the free time and non financially compensated “consultants” on this site do. They have a life, they have family, they have pastimes, BUT they collectively spread and agree to accommodating the site with minimal time responses… and I’m talking only minutes. Go and buy it …. See how much it costs you !

And, by the way, our “free consultants” don’t all live in Thailand.

How f*cking good is that for networking? THE BEST !

Sorry about swearing. Oops.

I decided to let this post on, just as a reminder on how the group operates (and why it operates how it does):

1. This group is ran like MOST of the Non-Thai Visa Advice Groups. A person asks a question, it gets answered, to prevent wrong information from being posted (confusing the person asking the question) commenting is closed.

2. Different people have different situations. For retirement visas, different people have different options based on the country they are staying in, the country of their passport, their financial situation, if they are in the country already or not, and other unique factors. Information that applies to an American may not apply for someone in Germany residing in China.

3. Once a person arrives in Thailand, the situation is also unique. Different immigration offices have different polices for filing the TM30 (and the submittal requirements), for getting an extension of stay based on retirement, etc. Information that applies to a person in Bangkok may not apply to a person in Chiang Mai.

4. For Facebook itself, the original poster of a question can delete their own question. We encourage our members to leave questions on the group so others can learn. If a person asks an unrelated question in a post, and the question gets answered, and the post is deleted, then knowledge about that question is gone.

5. To keep the group organized, we accept the following questions:

- The requirements for most visas in most countries

- The requirements for extension of stays

- The TM30 process

- Doing 90 day reports

- Overstays

- The Thai Pass and Thai visa system.

- The money requirements for the extension of stays

We do not allow discussion about:

- Opening a bank account, or the best bank to use (go to different bank branches and ask them)

- Health insurance agents

- School recommendations for ED visas

- Shipping personal items into Thailand

- Getting a work permit from the Labor office

We remove comments and give warnings about using agents. We also do not allow comments in the group about using agents.

We have a ZERO tolerance policy about suggesting using agents/ lawyers/consultants, or recommending any specific individuals. Suggesting to use an agent is grounds for instant removal from the group. Naturally, advice about directly bribing an immigration officer/ saying money can get a person out of any problem/ or suggesting to submit fake documents or related suggestions is grounds for instant banning from the group as well.

Discussions are a "give-and-take", like a large free-for-all group chat. This isn't a group chat. This isn't a place to make friends, or to joke like in a bar/restaurant. This isn't a place to try and make business deals, or try to post Youtube videos. This is a "ask a question, get an answer, commenting closed" group with a specific focus.

I'll leave commenting open to answer any meta related questions about the group until I go to sleep, then I'll turn off commenting.
