Why should discussions about work permits be excluded from visa-related forums?

Why not just let people talk about things? It is not going to bring about the end of the world (or the page) if someone talks about a work permit instead of a visa here. Many people here could have great advice to give. I think its kind of an a-hole move to lock off anything that is not specifically visa related is all.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether discussions about work permits should be included in visa-related forums. Some participants believe that excluding such conversations limits valuable advice sharing among community members. One commenter questions how a high-income freelancer without a degree can legally stay in Thailand and inquires about obtaining a business visa. Others defend the moderation decisions, stating that issues like trolling and disrespectful behavior prompted stricter topic enforcement, while recognizing the community's value in providing accurate information.

Talk about work/permit visa. How is someone who supposedly has a high income as a freelancer from an outside source(50k+usd a year, soon to be 75k+ and may become a lot more in future due to planned investiments) but less than 1 year of work experience and no degree plus young age yet staying on thailand with his girlfriend able to get legal here? Just curious. Is there a way to get a business visa or something under this circustances? Since the business doesnt directly involve thailand I don't think so... Plus not enough requirements to match services such as iglu sight.

Derek Dawson Maybe one day if I'm borred. Theres definitely enough content due to my life getting dramatic every week <_<. Even so Id rather wait until I'm older before I do so just to make it a bit more interesting.

Ah sight. The issue isn't really the staying here. An elite visa would solve that. It's more tax evasion concerns since after 180 days of stay your a resident. Especially double taxation issues. Well I know a legal way to get arround this but requires trust from my part which is why I was hoping to see if anyone knew an indepent way. Either way, thanks for your reply as it clarifies some of my questions.

it's not a question about doubting your skills or ability to maintain an income, there are plenty of young people with great skills and businesses. But these are rules set to us by the goverment. We are a company allowed to hire specialists in tech and we must follow these set criteria.

Exactly. Work experience being issue since open projects/contributions do not count nor ilegally owning a business as a minor (past). Santtu in case there is a contract which proves a source of income for at least a year which guarantees ability to mantain the required income would an exception be made?

Thanks Lloyd, however for Iglu all our international employees must have a relevant university degree + 2 years work experience, or no degree and +5 years work experience.

I thought the main requirements for Igluu were, the ability to pay the monthly fee and that you were in Thailand.

Google Igluu

I think I'm just the one that has the most free time to sit at the p/c and answer question :O

There are a LOT of good posters on this group that provide accurate and timely information for visas and extensions all over thailand.

Thanx to all who contribute.. It is not a group without all of you people :)

Yes Terry in the last 2 mths with help from Tod and members ive got my wife a visa to go England , A proof of income letter , and changed my Thai wife extention visa to a retirement visa . All made fairly simple through the advice from this group . For me its brilliant #### the critics

agree, especially, when people have been successful, having all the correct criteria for visa runs new visas, extensions, ect it keeps you updated with all whats happening

sounds like there where some deleted posts I did not get to see,.. so that makes sense if there is rudeness or trolling happening. Still I feel for the person who made the post and is just trying to get some genuine answers. Still I think this page is a great resource of travelers with many experiences and much knowledge to share. So I feel being strictly only visa advice would be a real shame.
Lloyd ********
I delete anything that is not Thai visa related, because to diversify the content would spread the advice too far down the page. Sorry if not everyone agrees with that, but for now at least, that's how it is . :-)

There are plenty of other places people can go and flame/troll/argue, etc. This forum is not one of them.

I did not really see any arguments happening on the post,.. unless something was deleted?...

Yes Tod --- you are correct. Subject matter can vary a bit but verbal elbow jabs, berating, lecturing and that sort of thing - is out of bounds as far as I am concerned.
Perry *******
Yep
Tod *********
I didn't really lock it out because of the question about whether a person can get a work permit without a degree (which of course you can)

I locked it out because of posters arguing about this or that, talkin' about working illegally etc.
