Why do holders of Non B or Non O visas have different reporting requirements in Thailand?

Hi,

Just wondering, when you get a Non B or Non O visa for 1 year, why some people need to get out of the country(visa run) every 90 days, and why some people just need to do a 90 days report at the local immigration...

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, the requirements for holders of Non B or Non O visas differ based on whether they have a multi-entry visa or an extension of stay. Those with a multi-entry visa must exit and re-enter the country every 90 days, known as a visa run. In contrast, those with an extension of stay do not need to leave the country but are required to report their status to immigration every 90 days. This discussion clarifies these differences and highlights the process involved for both visa types.

no, a year-long multi entry VISA (from a thai consulate) is about 5000baht

A yearly extension of stay is 1900baht and then the price of the re-entry permits if you needed it.

This is what a yearly extension of stay looks like from the immigration office) With this you do not need to leave the country.

Also my understanding is if you enter the country with an O-A visa, they stamp you in for a year and you must report every 90 days.

Is there a limited period for this Re-Entry Stamp, for staying outside of Thailand?

@Dave *****
, once you get a yearly extension granted you would then get a re-entry permit as well (either a single entry for 1000baht or a multiple entry for 3800baht)

A single re-entry looks like this ;)

With this yearly extension, can you get out of the country like a multiple entry option?
Tod *********
you can ONLY get extensions of stays from the immigration office INSIDE of thailand.

This is what a year long multi entry VISA looks like. This is the one that you exit/re-enter the country on every 90 days for the duration of the visa

, I have no problem answering your questions BUT it's is not really related to this post so please make your own and we'll go over the pros and cons :)

You can ONLY get this visa at a thai consulate OUTSIDE of thailand.

Because after the initial Single Entry (90 days) Visa (B or O), it is possible to:

1) apply a multi entry visa (a sticker on your passport) valid 1 year that must be re-activate every 90 days leaving the Country (border run);

2) apply an Extension of Stay valid 1 year (a stamp on your passport) that allows you not to leave the Country but you need to report yourself every 90 days at Immigration office inside the Country

Yes, you need re-entry permit. Single one costs 1,000 thb, multiple 3,800.
