Why did I receive a tourist visa instead of a DTV after my interview in Vientiane?
Today I went to visa interview in Venetian. After the interview about one hour, I received the email. I was happy to see the approval words. But when I took care to look the evisa, I suddenly find it was a tourist visa and only for 6 month. I can't believe in my eyes and I don't know why ? I have bought a 9 moths myua thai class, full of 50k bha and 3 months of bank statements. I provided all the documents they need and have a interview. But get the tourist visa only. 10000bha and live in Venetian for more than half months. But still can't get the DTV. Can some friends help me to analysis the reason ? Thank you so much.

Should you decide to reapply again in the future keep this ideology in mind.

JoyfulYuzu3571 You can get up to almost 9 months of stay in Thailand out of this visa. The multi entry Tourist Visa allows unlimited entries into Thailand for the duration of the visa validity, which is 6 months from the date of issue.
So firstly, you should fly as soon as possible after receiving your visa - the six-month validity of the visa starts on the day it is issued.
When you enter Thailand, you will receive a 60-day “admitted stay” permit
These 60 days can be extended by 30 more days on Immigration for 1900.- THB.
But you can also take a trip to a neighboring country before the 60 days are up. On re-entry, you will get stamped in for another 60 days
In case you extend the 60-days stay permit on Immigration by 30 days, you need to leave before the combined 90 days expire.
Exit Thailand, either take a holiday in one of the neighbouring countries.
Or do a “border bounce” – that means, stamp out of Thailand, stamp into the neighbor country, turn around and re-enter Thailand again. Upon this re-entry, you will receive the next 60-day “admitted stay” permit

You have 6 month to enter Thailand. Then visit an immigration and you will get the final visa

Under DTV they have different options. Its depends f9r which one you applied. They have muay yhai, education and remote work. Remote work is 5 yrs with 180days each stay. If you apply for muay thai category then those are not more than 1 year thats way maybe they give you that. If you show them 50k thb then definetely is not DTV 5 years because for that you need 500k thb. There are also some companies they charge 85k or 100k and thet guarantee your dtv visa, you dont even need all docs they "do it" for you.

Useless information but if you buy a long term visa Laos 1+ years cost is around $450
You can cross the border into Thailand without restrictions as long as they are short visits

Nobody here can tell other than they must have assessed you as either not requiring or not fulfilling the requirements for a DTV and have issued the METV so you don't totally lose your application fee as you would do if they'd flat out rejected you. You can get almost 9 months out of an METV which would allow you to pretty much complete the course. Relax, enjoy it and when the METV is no longer valid you can try and apply for the DTV again

Alan Rothwell but theoretically that's what it is. It's why they can't open bank account. He says they approved him only for metv, that's probably because he didn't fulfill the need for 5 years.
