for tourist visas the thai consulate in Savannakhet has signs posted stating they require 20K baht in a bank account, proof of onward travel and proof of a hotel booking. They don't ask everyone BUT it'd suck to get there and be the one they asked. I'd say IF you're using Savannakhet go prepared.

What kind of visa are you applying for next? Another tourist visa? I was just in Vientiane two months ago for a non B visa. Super easy process there! Embassy had moved temporarily to Singapore business college so look into that before you go. I got there a

I prefer going to ho chi minh, if there is a cheap flight available and if you can get a visa exemption for Vietnam. In Laos I prefer savanakhet because you don’t need to be in a big ass line
