Hello all!

Is anyone going from Chiang Mai to Vientiane, Laos next week for a visa run/ extension/ or for any other reason?

My tourist Visa ends on Sunday this week (25th June). I will soon start a 12-month education visa, though I need to get it approved in Vientiane. I plan to go on Monday 26th June and I am exploring my options for traveling there. Carpooling with others would be ideal and I would be happy to pay my way.

If you are planning to go there, and have a spare seat, let me know! Thanks,

Dan

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking travel companions for a visa run from Chiang Mai to Vientiane, Laos, scheduled for June 26th, as their tourist visa expires on June 25th. They are looking to carpool and are willing to share costs. Comments advise ensuring an appointment for the visa process and mention potential complications of driving into Laos, suggesting alternative travel options like flying to Vientiane or Udon Thani.

It is not without complications to drive your own car into Laos bc. they drive on the right side while Thailand drives on the left side of the road. Most ppl. would drive to the border, walk thru the border station and pick up a taxi on the Laos side. The easiest route from Chiang Mai might be to fly to Vientiane or fly to Udon Thani and take a bus to Vientiane from there.
