Throughout Laos at both the Thai Embassy in Vientiane + Thai Consulate in Savannakhet will start accepting Thai E-Visa applications on 01 January 2025 with 10-15 working days for processing of a Thai E-Visa. The last day for accepting in-person applications at Vientiane + Savannakhet is 20 December 2024.

Again, the Thai Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia will start accepting Thai E-Visa applications on 26 November 2024 with 10 working days for processing of a Thai E-Visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Starting 01 January 2025, the Thai Embassy in Vientiane and the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet will begin accepting Thai E-Visa applications, with a processing time of 10-15 working days. In-person applications at these locations will only be accepted until 20 December 2024. Additionally, the Thai Embassy in Jakarta will accept E-Visa applications starting 26 November 2024, with a processing time of 10 working days. Commenters express concerns about the complications of cash payments and processing times.

Interesting to note that you apply online thru the eVisa system in Vientiane then you GO there in person to pay the visa fee in CASH <- you don't pay online like the rest of the countries that use the eVisa system

AND

look at the processing time too 10-15 WORKING DAYS, that's up to THREE WEEKS you're going to be in Lao waiting on that visa to be approved

10 days processing, good to know! I was almost regretting leaving Bali to apply in Jakarta because the processing time is so quick here, I assumed it would the same online. But if I’d waited for online applications to start, it wouldn’t have been granted til about a week after my Indonesian visa expires lol

Is it possible to submit the application before you actually arrive in Jakarta?

@William ************
you have to physically be IN the country when you apply, because you upload your entry stamp visa to Indo to show you're there

Thank you!

1 January 2025 is a public holiday. I can't see them starting applications on that date. Assume that the first working day will be Thursday the 2nd, but chances are, not much will happen until Monday the 6th, as I believe the government has designated the 2nd and even the 3rd as additional public holidays in 2025?
Paul *******
Well that is going to be complicated! Anyone not in Vientiane to pay for the visa fees, will have to find someone to pay on their behalf or ensure they're in Vientiane to pay the fees before venturing to other parts of the country.

The same for Savannakhet.

Why don't they accept credit and debit cards, like literally every other embassy and consulate using the e-visa system?

@Ha**
Yes. However, you don't need to be in Vientiane or Savannakhet, just Laos in general.

correct me if im wrong, didn't you need to physically in there anyway even if you don't pay for the visa fee in person?
