When does the 90-day reporting period start after changing to a Non-Immigrant ED visa in Thailand?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi everyone. I entered Thailand on 28 July 2025 on a visa-exempt stamp. Later, I changed my status to a Non-Immigrant ED visa, which was approved on 17 September 2025 at Chaeng Wattana.

Now today (around 90 days since my first entry), I’m confused about the 90-day report (TM.47) rule.

Does the 90-day countdown start from:

1️⃣ the date I entered Thailand (28 July), or

2️⃣ the date my ED visa was approved (17 Sept)?

I’ve checked Immigration’s website and can’t find anything clear about whether a visa status change resets the 90-day timer.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 90-day reporting period for a Non-Immigrant ED visa does not start from the date of entry into Thailand or the date when the visa was approved. Instead, it is determined upon the first extension of stay for the ED visa, where the immigration office will provide a specific date for when the 90-day report is due.

Actually neither.

It has nothing to do with how many days you've been in the country since you arrive. And it has nothing to do with your initial 90-day non-ed Visa.

When you go apply for your very first extension of stay on this ed visa most immigration offices will staple a small paper in your passport that tells you when your first 90-day report is due.

You don't report or do anything until you get that paper.

So when you go for your first extension look to see if they gave you the paper showing when your first 90 day report is due or ask them..
