When is my first 90-day report due after switching from an ED visa to a COVID extension in Thailand?

90 day report, for the first time ever - when do I need to do it?

Details:

- I was on ED visa, that lasted until 13 June 2021.

- On June 10 went to Samui immigration, closed the ED visa and got the covid extension. This is my first ever 60 day covid extension, it is valid to 8th August.

- About to go to Phangan imigration to get my second 60 day extension.

Question: when do I need to do my first 90 day report? People keep telling me conflicting information. Am I understanding it right that it should be one month from now? (90 days from when my ED visa ran out)

Heard that Phangan immigration is fining pretty much everyone for missing 90 days reports, does anybody have experience with that?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The first 90-day report after switching from an ED visa to a COVID extension is due 90 days from when the ED visa expired. Since the individual received the COVID extension on June 10, 2021, the report should be filed by September 8, 2021. However, it is important to note that the process can vary by location, as seen with Koh Phangan's immigration office, which confirmed that those on a COVID extension must still complete the 90-day report as usual. Experiences shared in the comments indicate that while the first report might count as done at the time of switching visas, future reports must be completed separately. It is advisable to check with local immigration offices to ensure compliance and avoid fines.

Update/answer from immigration:

- We do have to do 90 day reports when on the covid extension. (At least that’s the case on koh phangan)

- when switched to the covid extension (TM7) the very first time (so two months ago in my case) that counts as a 90 day report.

- the upcoming 90 day reports will have to be done manually. (They said in person is better then online)

- and the future visa extensions don’t count as a 90 day report. You do your 60 day extensions and 90 day reports separate from each other as they come up.

Thanks for the help! Just did my extension and all is good. No 90 day report troubles.

Made the above section a bit info redundant but applicable for everyone on koh phangan. Hope it helps somebody out.

Okay, Here is how it works IF you're comin' off an extension where you DID do 90 day reporting and going on to a covid extension.

You are still obligated to file 90 day reports like normal, SO look at the current 90 day report slip that you had from when you were on your ED extension and go file the 90 day report at that time.

That is what I have been seeing being required for people who come off any extension type where they were doing 90 day reporting and switching to covid extensions.

thanks! The school did the paperwork every 3 months and didn’t give me any slip with the date so this will be interesting. I guess I’ll have to go and ask at kpg immigration what’s up. Fun times. I’ll report back the findings on this thread maybe others find it useful too

Your situation is quite complicated because of a few issues.

Generally when you get an ED visa, it is good for 90 days. When you go to extend this visa for the first time, the immigration office does your first 90 day report for you on that visit and then provide you the slip of paper saying when your next one is due.

Because you didn't extend your ED visa, you broke the normal flow of things. Thais don't handle changes to the normal way of things well.

Your first 90 days was due when your ED visa ran out. They didn't do it for you because you didn't renew it. Therefore you're already well past your reporting date and there's not much you can do at this point except eat the fine when you next use immigration.

it can't hurt to ask, though I'd avoid arguing with them if they say no!

To slightly simplify the question: when is the first 90 day report due after switching to the covid extension from an ED visa?

- during the first covid extension (so within 60 days)

- or during the second covid extension (so 90 days after coming off the ED visa)

I vaguely remember
@Tod ********
mentioning something about this in another thread but couldn't unearth it in the archives.

Did Thai immigration place a paper in your passport saying that you will need to do the 90 days report when you got your COVID extension?

If not then you will not need to do it.

But best to ask.

Hi
@Ja***
, thanks for the quick reply! There was no paper of such put in my passport, or said verbally.

Tricky bit is it was Samui immigration, and now I will go to KPG immigration (so they might be reading the rules slightly differently).

Also, dunno if its the same thing - the extension stamp itself says you need to do your 90 days reporting. That stamp /extension was from 60 days ago

I was living on KPG ever since, but had to go to Samui for the first extension. So no new tm30 (KPG immigration would only do the covid extension if you already had one before).

Yes I would definitelly do the 90 day report, the questions is, since it is not due yet (to my understanding at least) will KPG imigration give me a hard time tomorrow when I go for my second extension.

if the stamp says you need to do the 90 day reporting... Then do it.

But as you have moved... Have you filed a TM 30 for the new address?
