When does the 60-day Covid extension start if I apply before my TR visa expires?

Hello, quick question about Covid extension timing at Chaengwattana. If I go a week before my TR visa expires to apply for the 60 day Covid extension and it’s approved, will the 60 days begin counting from the day I apply or from the date the TR visa expires? I have already received the 30 day TR extension and it will expire on September 23. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 60-day Covid extension for a Thai visa typically begins from the day of application, rather than the expiration date of the original visa. It is advised to consider applying a week before the TR visa expires, noting that the last day to apply for this extension is the 27th.

As Benjamin said. This wasn't always the case but recently the covid extension seems to be from the date of application. Be aware the 27th is the last day to apply.

thank you very much. Then it seems to maximize the time duration it would make sense to apply for the Covid extension on the same day the TR visa expires is that correct?

yes, assuming the visa expires before the covid extension program is discontinued.

have you had a 30 day extension on that visa yet?

ok I reread some of your previous posts. Be aware of languaging. Your visa expired the minute you stamped into thailand, since then you are in a permission to stay stamp, which you extended with a 30 day extension. So, the 23rd is a Thursday and immigration is likely closed in some locations on Friday the 24th for a national holiday. So, 23rd it is for you to get to immigration and apply for the unable to travel due to covid extension.

Thanks a lot. Yes you are correct, my apologies for the language confusion. First time going through all of this so I’m not too experienced on the proper terminology yet haha. Thanks again to everybody!

As Benjamin said, it will most likely start the day you apply since you are changing reasons for extension. But if the program is renewed and you are able to apply again in a couple of months, the time would get added onto the end because it's for the same reason at that point.

I believe the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 beings on the day you apply for it.

what people are unable to travel?

To get an 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, AT SOME IMMIGRATION OFFICES, a person would need to show EITHER:

1. A letter from the embassy saying they can not return home OR;

2. A letter from the embassy saying they don't issue letters saying they can not return home OR;

3. A screenshot from the embassy's website saying they don't issue the letters saying they can not return home

(NOTE the "OR"s)
