Hi,

When applying for Non O extension, will the 12 months begin the date the extension is approved or from when the initial 90 days visa expires?

Also, does anyone know current Chiang Mai requirements regarding showing proof of residence, i.e. do I need a rental contract and if so, what's the minimum length? (I'm not currently there to check it myself... thinking/planning ahead.)

Thank you πŸ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Non O extension, the 12-month period begins from the approval date of the extension, not from the expiration of the initial 90-day visa. Additionally, to show proof of residence in Chiang Mai, a rental contract is typically required, although the minimum length has not been specified in the comments.

I am now clear regarding my first question. Any supportive, clear input regarding Chiang Mai rental contract (my second question)? Thank you πŸ™

My ending date of the extension is the date 89 days after I entered Thailand, not end date of the (non imm. O 90 days visa). Came in 7 years ago 11th of October end the date my extension ends is 8th of January.

It is added to the end of your visa. Extending it if you will, that is why people say the initial o visa + extension is 15 months.

You said "it is added to the end of y'r visa" ! Thats not true. It's added to the end of y'r entry stamp. E.g. if you enter 30 days before y'r visa expires, you get an entry stamp to leave Thailand after 90 days. The end date of that stamp is the date on which every year extension ends. So if you got y'r first year extension one year later, this extension ends on the date y'r entry stamp ends. The visa is already expired with a stap "Used". The expire date of the original visa is not relevant anymore.

Thank you both. What I'm hearing is essentially the same answer, expressed in different ways, from your two different perspectives. I am clear that the 90 day visa start date is the date I get stamped in when I arrive. And the visa validity date is the time period within which I need to arrive in Thailand to activate my visa. Thanks again for taking the time to respond and make sure that it's accurate πŸ™

Nope. Read my comment. Year extension ends 89 days after y'r entry stamp.

@Peter ***************
so your YEAR extension ends after 89 days? And you have done the initial extension 8 times? Maybe you should read your comment to see if it makes sense before posting.

Okay okay, When you get y'r year extension on the non imm. O, (e.g. after 60 days in Thailand) and the year extension starts, the end date of that year extension is 89 days after y'r entry stamp. (1 year later ofcourse) NOT the end date of y'r visa. So maybe you have to give correct info.

@Peter ***************
so how is 1 year + 89 days not 15 months? Not worth it, but it is nice when basically scream, β€œplease block me I’m a pedantic idiot.”

@Darren ********
Came in 11th of october. You can see that on my entry stamp. On that same entry stamp also is the valid to date that I should leave Thailand, 8 january.

On the second part you can see I went to imm. 8 december and got my year extenson valid to 8 january a year after. And that's the date on which I should have left Thailand on my entry stamp. I hope that clears up my remark. If not, I give up.

@Darren ********
Maybe my pictures clear it up what I mean.

You see my visa valid from 14 september to 14 december. That's the timeframe I have to enter Thailand.
