So we have finally made the decision to set a date and move to Phuket (I already own a condo there). We are both on Australian passports, I’ll be 52 and my partner 42 we we plan to leave. We aren’t married.
I understand that I can do the retirement visa but what type of visa is best for my partner? Or me for that matter, we do intend to use Phuket as base for other travel outside of Thailand but would like maximum flexibility. No interest in student or elite visas. We can cover the financial requirements of the retirement visa also.
An sensible advice would be most welcome, TIA
TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) seeks advice on visa options for themselves and their partner, as they move to Phuket. The OP is eligible for a retirement visa (Non-O) since they are over 50 but needs to determine what type of visa is best for their partner, who is younger and unmarried. Suggestions include: OP applying for a Non-O visa and later extending it for retirement; and the partner applying for a Special Tourist Visa (STV) or potentially an Elite Visa, although concerns over practicalities and the need for marriage for certain visas are mentioned. The conversation explores the intricacies of visa regulations, financial requirements, and living arrangements for unmarried couples.
