TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on which visa to apply for to stay in Thailand for 6 months. They express concern over needing to buy a full year of health insurance for the Non-Immigrant O-A visa, as they only need coverage for their six-month stay. Responses suggest various options, including applying for a tourist visa, which would allow for an initial 60 days with a possible 30-day extension. They could then seek longer-term options within that timeframe while only needing to purchase health insurance that lasts the duration of their stay.

It seems like we're just going round and round with the O/P not wanting to carry a year of both covid insurance and the mandatory 40k/400k out/in-patient health insurance for the O-A visa because they're only going to be here for 6 months.

Seeing as you get stamped in for the validity of the insurance(s) if you only wanna be here 6 months then the answer is get just 6 months of the insurance(s). When you apply for the COE show that you are leaving before the insurance expires AND when you arrive you'll get stamped in as long as your insurance is valid for.

Hans, between what James and Benjamin have advised you have your solution. As you have no ties here in Thailand you may wish to travel. On a tourist visa is the easiest way forward for you to stay here. If you decide to stay here on a OA visa and extension you have other issues with which immigration office you use for reporting and being approved extensions of stay. Come here first and see how it fits with you. Take the advice. - Get the Tourist Visa and whatever is required for your intended length of holiday. The Thai embassy in your country will tell you exactly what you need before they issue a tourist visa, and is hands-down the easiest way for you.

Please stop using the fancy graphics... Use simple English type on facebook. Much easier to read your post. I cannot scroll down to read your post on my phone.

Thank you.

In my case, I had a hard time seeing the dark blue and black. The text had a "jumping" effect on my computer. Gives me a headache.

frankly I would have rejected the post and messaged the OP to repost using plain English type. I have done that many times.

How about the COE then, will I only get the time stamped in my passport until the original health insurance expires ?

Discussion of the CoE is outside of the group's scope. The CoE gives you the legal right to enter Thailand.

If I apply for a Non Immigrant Visa Type OA - that is good for one year - do I then need a health insurance for one year or is less time also sufficient ?

You need health insurance for the length of time you'll stay in Thailand. If you're staying here for a year, it needs to be for a year. If you're staying here for 3 months, then get insurance for three months.

JUST A REMINDER: The absolutely terrible designed Special Tourist Visas are no longer being sold. Thank you.

Get a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in the country you're in. Come here, get stamped in for 60 days, take the 30 day regular extension for 1900baht at the immigration office and during that 90 days you're allowed here look for other longer term visa/extension options.

That choice only requires you to have 60 days of the 100K USD covid insurance.

As well as the Covid insurance if you come on an OA visa bought in your own country you also need general medical insurance as well as the Covid cover. If your medical insurance is only valid for 6 months then you will only get stamped in for 6 months, so the duration of the insurance doesn't need to match the duration of the visa

Sadly, there is no "six month visa". But, what do you mean by "income settled"? Do you have the 800K THB in a savings account/ 65K THB a month in monthly income from a pension?
