TLDR : Answer Summary
Michael from Australia is seeking advice on how he and his wife can stay in Chiang Mai for three months each year after retiring. Suggestions in the comments recommend applying for a 60-day tourist visa, which can be extended once for an additional 30 days at local immigration, allowing for a total stay of 90 days.

Tourist visa 60 days, extend to 90. Just get a new one every time you go.

I'd say the best is by plane. Even sailing might be adventurous. Take your pick ๐Ÿ™

Apply for a tourist visa before you travel to Thailand. With this visa you'll receive a 60 day stamp when you arrive, and you can apply one time for a 30 day extension. That's 90 days of permission to stay.
