What should we do about our tourist visa extension issues at Nakhon Nayok immigration?

We went to Nakorn Nayok immigration office. We are so confused. We went 3 times, Each immigration officer told us they needed different documents for the same extension. We just need a 4 day extension on a 60 day tourist visa. The officer there wanted us to pay 2500 bhat each and she would grant it right then. She said if we only have her 1900bhat she would have it sent off and it would be back in 2 weeks. Online is says 1900bhat. We are staying the 4 extra days because of a medical condition and the doctors advice.

Should we just pay the fine upon leaving with the letter from the hospital, or go to the immigration office in Bkk? Any recommendations?

We were told it was in the discretion of the immigration officer whether or not to grant us the extension for four days. She said the price might go up. Would it hurt us if we had a letter from the hospital stating I am having surgery on the 8th? If we gave that at the time of exit, would it hurt us?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on obtaining a 4-day extension for their 60-day tourist visa due to a medical condition. They have visited the immigration office multiple times, each time receiving conflicting information regarding the required documents and fees. The initial fee quoted was 1,900 baht, but an officer demanded 2,500 baht for immediate processing. The user is contemplating whether to pay the fine upon departure with a hospital letter or to continue pursuing the extension at the immigration office in Bangkok. Comments from other users indicate that a simple request for a 30-day extension should suffice, and they advise against mentioning medical reasons, as it may complicate the process.

1 day overstay is 500bht.

Why would you want to overstay paying 2000bht at airport and being registered as "offender" than just pay them 2500 bht at immigration?

You want to deal with stress and hassle for saving 500bht?

I just extend my turist visa with 30 days in Chiang mai and it cost 1900 bath and i got it in a 1 hour, they just try to get more money out of you,go back and politely ask to speak with the supervisor

You want to apply for a 30-day extension of stay for purpose of tourism. It will cost 1,900 baht.

Saying anything else beyond that is seemingly causing confusion which is not beneficial to your case. No mentions of surgery. No medical. No covid.

I would find the denial of a 30-day extension of stay for purpose of tourism to be extraordinary and I would politely but firmly ask to see a supervisor. Don't drag extraneous things into the conversation. Keep it very simple. On this you should not take no for an answer. You will be asking for a very simple extension that as far as I know is *always* granted.

I actually tried to just pay it. 2500 a person for 4 people for 30 day extension. The home I rented, the owner apparently should have come and told them I was living here 3o days after arrival. She had no idea, Because she did not do so they told us she might get charged up to 8000 bhat fine. They wanted to have her go to the police station and write out affidavits first then bring her back to immigration office. She is a bit concerned so she decided not to go to get her affidavit stamped at the police station.

Ahhh, now it begins to make some sense. It is often a requirement of an immigration office that you have been properly reported via a TM-30 by the landlord/hotel where you have been saying. It is a legal requirement for them to do that for you. BUT often the immigration office holds YOU responsible for their failure because you are standing right there in front of them and the actual responsible parties are nowhere to be found.

Your hotel/landlord is behaving illegally. Unfortunately, your immigration office can refuse to do anything for you until your legally required reporting is in good standing including the payment of any fees for it not being done from the date you arrived at the place you stay. Your hotel/landlord has really screwed things up for you. In my opinion, the landlord/hotel is responsible for any excess cost beyond the 1,900 baht/person you should pay for an extension of stay. And beyond that, your landlord/hotel owes you a big apology for putting you in this position by refusing to do their legal duty.

However, the way these things usually go the poor renter/customer ends up paying the fine on behalf of their landlord/hotel. Not doing that results in your not getting what you need from the Immigration Office. You could try to get the money from your landlord/hotel but as they have proven their disinterest in following the laws of Thailand it seems to me you are unlikely to get any compensation out of them.

In any case, you should leave a review that accurately describes how you were treated at that lodging after you leave Thailand. You were treated shabbily. Sorry, you had this experience.

Just to be crystal clear, the reason you're having all these problems is the fault of your hotel/landlord who refused to do what they are legally required to do, notify immigration of any foreigners who stay overnight at their property. If your landlord/hotel had done what they were supposed to do this would not be happening now. Unfortunately, immigration takes it out on the easiest target, the one they have control over and that's you. Any fines owing due to the failure of your being reported are going to have to be paid. It may be possible to get immigration to reduce the fees, but until they are satisfied, likely, you won't be getting your extension of stay.

Sounds like trying to avoid paying out money 🤷‍♂️ fine 500 baht daily each any way so 2500 each at immigration I would of just paid all done and dusted

Fill out the TM-7 form applying for thirty (30) days extension of stay for purpose of tourism. I have never heard of this being denied for someone who was on a visa-exempt entry or a Tourist Visa.

If you are still denied ask politely to speak to a supervisor.

I think what the officer mean is if you want it quick you have to pay them extra money. Let's see if they will give you a receipt or not, if not then it's under the table. They can't take your passport away for 2 weeks, you are supposed to have your passport with you at all times. I think they mean they will give you the "under consideration" stamp and have you come back after 2 weeks to get the result if they will extend it for you or not. The extra money is just for them to make it faster for you.
Sasawan **********
Well that's not cool.

Does the Thai immigration website have a page that provides a detailed list for documentation required for each visa application?

yes… it is more complicated if you rent a house. If the homeowner did not go to immigration office to verify your stay with 30days of your arrival.

It should only be 1900 for 30 days, get a certificate from your hospital doctor get medical Visa

You may have an overstayed stamp on your passport if you pay the final leaving. It may even affect your ability to get into other countries. I would’ve paid the extra 2500.

good point , it's 500 per day if they ask.

You are entitled to a 30 day extension doesn't matter when you leave within that time. The price is 1900b. Why have him/she asked for extra money? Once you have filled in your forms the process takes not more than 1 hour in my experience. Don't make a scene that won't do you any favors just point out you know what is what. All done with a smile of course!
Nigel *********
Have you actually used your first 30 day extension that you're entitled to. ? Try and keep this simple.

no… we came in on December 9th. This will be our only request. What sad about this is I was born here and grew up here. Left for college at 21 😰 . They don’t make it easy 😓

@Malasee ******
I honestly don't know how they're making it so difficult... maybe you're not clear enough for them... Look, you're allowed ONE 30 day extension following a 60 day tourist visa.. this is routine, almost everyone gets it.. theres no consideration, it's simple and routine. you need the following TM7 (request for extension, copy of passport info page, copy of entry stamp, copy of tm6 card (that's your departure card) 2 passport photos, 1900. That's per application. Maybe, just maybe, the screen shot of the TM30 (residency) that you can get from your accomodation. Don't mention covid, dont mention medical. Straight 30 day extension. If they mess you around again then ask for a supervisor...

Don't forget to leave a trip advisor report once you've left

I have never heard of someone on a visa-exempt entry or a Tourist Visa not getting a 30-day extension of stay for tourism purposes. The cost is 1,900 baht and it's done while you wait.

I think somewhere this request got off the rails and it's turning something incredibly simply into something complicated. I completely agree that medical, covid, etc. has no part to play in this conversation.

I want a 30-day extension of stay for purpose of tourism. Period. End of story. It costs 1,900 baht.

thank you! I think after going down 3 times with different paperwork they wanted each time and the owner of the house verifying our stay. Because it is in their discretion, dragging my 75 year old mother in law, with my 4 year old, my husband and I down to the office every time just became unreasonable. We have thai friends that even canceled the day of work to try to discuss what they want. I have resorted to letting Bumrungrad do it. Thankfully someone on the message board gave me that idea. I didn’t realize they had a department that will handle these cases. They just called me back. The business office manager was not surprised about the $$ under the table. She did say that each person has different requirements, even when you take the list in. “Because it is in their discretion.”thanks again🙏🙏
Michelle *********
You can request for a medical visa if you are scheduled for surgery by your doctor. You will need to read up on the requirements if it matches your needs. That will give you 90 days to stay. If you need further details on it Bumrungrad Hospital has their own visa place. They might be able to give you more guidance on this

Ok you need to go to them but you need to be 7 days out before it expires. Not sure if they can help you without getting an agency involved.
Stephen *******
I think they think you want a covid extension. Don't mention medical. You just want 30 more days holiday. Simple and 1900 baht.
Nigel *********
There appears to be a misunderstanding. You're on a 60 day tourist visa. You are allowed 1 30 day extension. The cost is 1900thb each. There are no 4 day extensions. There is no requirement to have passports sent away. I would go back and speel to another io. If you have any further issues then ask for a soupervisor. Take notes and collar numbers. They look for easy targets (low hanging fruit).

we are not overstayed yet. She said that she will add 600 baht to each 30 day visa extension because she usually hold onto the passports for two weeks and then issued them. Our visa is up on the 6th , surgery on the 8th, plane leaves the 10th. She said that in order to get an extension today we have to pay an extra 600 but a visa. Since I am traveling with my family it’s four of us.

@Malasee ******
there’s been other posts about charging extra for “expediting the process”, which seems to be a very common tactic for charging extra. Sadly I don’t think there’s actually much recourse or the hassle is actually worth it.
Benoit *********
@Malasee ******
auw , like I say 'maybe' (sorry English is not my main language).

Hope you can find a solution for this 🙏 - but 1.900 is the price , and they do it at immigration (no need of sending passeport at someplace) .
Benoit *********
Why you not simply ask the extension for 30 days and pay 1.900 for it ?

If you go to airport , is a fine of 500 Bahts / day of overstay , and a lot of problems if you want to come back again to Thailand

I forgot to extend my 60 day with 30 days onse and got fined for 30 days. Next year went back...NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER.

only say it because of this ...

I know is for 90 days or more , but you know - here the rules can be changed very fast..

I never been in overstay

Thats MASSIVE overstays! I overstaid 30 days. There was a limit when you not only pay the fine but also get prison time. That was for overtays like 40+ days.
