Hey guys, looking to move to thailand in one year. Is there anything that I need to know?Or research?I'm looking for a twelve hundred dollar condo for me and my son
Answer summary
When planning to move to Thailand with your son, it's crucial to research visa options suitable for both of you, as eligibility is key. Consider the cost of living, particularly accommodation and education expenses, since living near beach resorts can be pricier. It's recommended to explore different locations within Thailand to find the right fit, and connect with expats for insight. A preliminary visit is advisable to experience living conditions before making the final decision.

1200 dollars in what currency? Usually people mean USD but your nickname sounds like you may mean New Zealand dollars.

Nah - you're good.

There are plenty of 1200 dollar condos in Thailand. I am sure you can find one.

Best of luck to you sir.

Step one location?

Huge variety of prices, south expensive. JOMTIEN or Hua Hin cheaper, further north alot cheaper.

2) Type of visa suitable for the 2 of you, that's depends on age and financial situation

3) Then education, if your child needs international school can be very expensive

I suggest a month min trip to see the places, set up meetings re banking, medical contact and school

The first thing you need to do is work out appropriate visas for both you and your son and see if you are eligible.

Before you decide to move in Thailand better come and experience first and see. Is not very cheap, in my opinion. Do not count on other opinion, because what is good for them maybe is not good for you. Come experience and then decide. In the mean time you can connect with people( expats) and find what you need and if it meats your expectations.

Nothing to research at all. Just buy 2 one-way, non-refundable, first class tickets and you're off. Have fun.

37,000 THB is what you'd pay for a house near or at a beach resort. Suggest to come here first, stay at an average apt for a few months, then look.

ExhilaratingKiwi1513 I live in downtown Phuket town, 30 min from Patong beach. A two bedroom duplex with air con costs me $190 (6k THB) a month. Wife and kids are not complaining. Also have a cat, rabbit, and three scooters. Hard to imagine myself on the wrong side of the balcony.
