What should I know about the validity period of my Non-O visa before entering Thailand?

What’s the Go

Got approval today for my Non O 90 day visa , yay. However it’s starts today and I’m not flying out till the 22/4. I put the departure date in the application so it seems they gave short changed me. Is that typical scenario and is there a way to get those days back.

Cheers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user received confirmation for a 90-day Non O visa, but the validity starts from the date of issue while their flight is scheduled for later. Responses clarify that this is standard; the 90-day countdown begins upon entry into Thailand, not from the visa issue date. Thus, as long as the user enters Thailand within the 90-day period, they will receive a full 90-day stay. There is no option for a 30-day extension on a Non O visa, but a 60-day extension may be available for certain circumstances like visiting Thai family.

Graham Seal yes it’s got to be before the expiry date. I think the OP was worried because the issue date was before their travel date.

Greg SimpsonI thought the same when I got my first one...then when we got a tourist visa for my girlfriend to come to UK ....we WERE. Short changed , visa was 6 months from date of issue so we lost two months !!!have our departure flight date and we could not leave sooner so I believe the thai way of doing things is way better.

Sorry to disappoint you but he is right, you can’t get a 30 day extension on a 90 day non-o entry. 😳

Paul Green this is true though. There is no regular 30 day extension for a Non-O visa.

There is a 60 day one if you have Thai family you are visiting, and a year.

No short changing, perfectly normal. The visa is valid for 90 days which means you have 90 days in which to enter Thailand. As long as you enter within those 90 days you will be stamped in for 90 days including the day you enter.

That day counts even if you enter at 23:59.

Vic Rollins and technically it’s the date at your IO desk, right? if you landed at 22:30 and just took your time getting to and through the line and get stamped at 12:06, you are in the next day, right?

You get 3 months on landing and have 3 months to enter.

You have a 90 day window to enter after the visa is issued, and you will be granted a 90 day stay upon entry at any day within that period.
