So coming up to my first retirement extension renewal. No problems with what I need for that, but what about the underlying visa. Hard to see where it is in my passport. I changed over from a work permit last year, so must have done a new visa at that time, but someone did it for me, so unsure. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This conversation discusses the process for renewing a retirement visa extension in Thailand, particularly for an expat uncertain about their underlying visa status. Participants suggest checking the passport for the entry stamp, clarifying that if one has an Extension of Stay rather than a visa, the last stamp must be referenced for the renewal. The importance of understanding previous visa statuses and entry dates is highlighted for successful renewal.

the extension will cost 1900baht AND if you want a re-entry permit after you get the extension it's 1000baht for a single re-entry permit (use it once) or 3800baht for a multiple re-entry permit (come and go all you want for the year) .
You meet the financial requirements, provide the appropriate copies etc and you get a new yearly extension of stay.
You don't need to wait until this one almost runs out because they ADD the new year extension onto the expiration date of your current one. You don't lose any time by applying early.
correct, you are now ON a yearly extension based on being over 50 (retirement) and you will apply for a NEW one before this one expires. You do that every year from now on.
Than you do not have a visa, you're on an Extension of Stay. Just copy the last stamp with the date which comes up somewhere in the near future. Stamp look like this:
