Hi all, I'm currently at Ban Laem border and I was refused a visa upon arrival into Cambodia due to 1. Me not staying 1 night or 2. I'm not with a company (visa run company) then a man yelled out to me and said "hey come here I'll help you." 1600 bat later I was issued a visa for Cambodia. Corrupt fucking arseholes. Let's see how I go entering Thailand again on my multi entry non o that expires tomorrow lol

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a traveler's experience at the Ban Laem border, where they faced issues obtaining a visa for Cambodia due to not staying the required time and not using a visa run company. They encountered corruption, being charged additional fees, which raised concerns about entering Thailand again on their expiring multi-entry Non-O visa. Comments provide insights into common practices at this border, specific fees for Cambodian visas, and advice for travelers to be aware of the rules and potential pitfalls.

I knew the Aranyaprathet - Poi Pet border was famous for this but this is one of the first verifiable reports I'd heard of the cambodian side of Ban Laem doing the "extra fee for not staying 24 hours in Cambodia".

The bad thing is the Ban Laem border crossing doesn't accept the cambodian e-visa either like Poi Pet does,,

Yes because I know what it is.....this post serves as a warning to others going to the border.

Was it 1600 thb on top of the 1200 thb visa fee? Please clarify.

They tried that yes

The visa on arrival in Cambodia is 1200bt and there's a 'leaving fee' of 300bt which they quite often take at the same time if you're just going in and straight out. If 1600bt was your total payment then you've only overpaid by 100bt.

Yes that's eventually what I paid BUT it was originally 2600.

There's always a charge for the visa in Cambodia, so was that an extra 1600 baht or total?

In the end they charged 1600 baht which is 100 baht higher than the actual visa but I don't mind paying that as they did all the paperwork and went and got the stamp done so I didn't have to go back to the Cambodian immigration office.

Believe it because it happened to me and a lady that rolled up as I was re-entering Thailand.

I not believe that. The guys there normally ask THB 1,800.- for people coming alone.

He tried charging me 2600 baht. They are scumbags at that border

Troy you must know the rules in advance and know how to play the game or you will get screwed many times. Homework my friend always do the homework first. I don't think it will be a problem for Thailand you should get 90 days. Keep us posted!

I think that's the problem. The visa run companies pay certain people under the table and when you go alone no payment goes under the table,... then you're fakked.
