Do I need to stay overnight for a visa run at the Padang Besar border with a non O visa?

Just a quick question about my non o visa. Sorry if it’s been asked before.

My stamp’s good until April 15th and I’m planning on being in Songkhla for Songkran arriving April 9th and will visit Malaysia.

My question is, when I do my visa run, ‘officially’ do I have to do an overnight or can I just stamp out and back in again?

I had trouble at the Sadao border crossing in the past so I plan to cross at Padang Besar which I’ve done before with my tourist visa doing a u turn.

Just interested if the overnight rule still applies.

On another, thanks to everyone who helped me organise my non o in January. I would have been completely screwed with out this group! Tod, you’re the man!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about the necessity of an overnight stay while making a visa run from Thailand to Malaysia via Padang Besar, particularly during the Songkran festival. Community responses clarify that there is no official overnight rule for visa runs; individuals can typically stamp out and immediately return without needing to stay overnight. Advice includes being prepared to show proof of funds at the border, especially at southern crossings.

Then look up Thale Ban National Park in Satun Province ... There is a border checkpoint there. A very laid back border crossing... You may just want to go there for your border bounce.

Sorry to have asked so many questions, your use of terminology threw me off. :/

To me a "visa run" is when you go to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a visa and a "border-bounce" is when you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, in&out of another country and back into thailand to activate another entry on a multi-entry visa or get a 30 day visa exempt stamp.

There are no "overnight rules" that's just a way to extort money out of people. You can bounce out and right back in. Although I would have proof of 20K baht in cash on you because that border is known for asking for proof of funds.

If you have a 1 year visa and just need 90 day stamp, it would be easy.

The so called overnight rule, that as
@T**
said is not an official rule at all, affect only people who exit and re-enter by land using Malaysian bordes and asking for 30 day visa exempt stamp.

, where you got the visa doesn't matter, it's the border crossing you're comin' in on and the southern borders have been know to ask for proof of funds 20K baht in cash for people on Non-Immigrant Type visas.

I was wanting to make sure you still have a valid VISA seeing as that's what controls if you get another 90 day stamp or not. ;)
