Just completed a visa run to Savannakhet for non-o m/e

by marriage. Smooth as silk, no change to required paperwork & in-and-out within 10 minutes on both days.

Couple of tips for anyone due to go soon.

1) If you can , get US$35 before you go. I bought at Don Meuang for just over 1100 baht (1500B charged at border if no Dollars)

2) if you are going to the Consulate before your hotel don't forget to take a copy of the data page of your passport for the hotel when you check in.

3) prepare all copies beforehand but you will need a copy of the page with Thai exit / Laos entry stamps.

There is a shop opposite the Consulate that copies @ 5 baht sheet

4) Not a lot happening after dark in Savannakhet but head for the night market by the Catholic Church. Some good bars/cafes and a couple of live music joints all within walking distance.

The visa pricing for Lao is on a a "sliding scale" depending on what country you come from. Canadians pay the most :O

The copy shop opposite the consulate fills out the app form, photo copies docs, takes passport photos if you need them and checks that you're good to go all for 80bt. Excellent service and well worth the fee. Plenty to do after dark, especially along the mekong, just ask the locals, there's even a couple of nightclubs there.

I didn't have a copy of Thai exit / Laos entry stamps a few months ago and they didn't seem to mind.
