What should I do if the ED visa requires proof of accommodation for an internship in Thailand?

Hi guys, thanks for the add. Coming April I will arrive in Bangkok to participate in an internship with a Thai company for 12 weeks.

However, the Belgian embassy brought to my attention that one of the new ED-visa requirements is now a proof of stay for the entire duration. This would mean booking a 12 week stay in advance, in times of high uncertainty of actually being able to enter Thailand by the time it's April.

I asked them if providing sufficient proof of the ability to book a 12 week stay is okay, and they refused. Is this seriously my only option? Could I opt for booking something for visa applying purpose, and cancel after? Any advise here?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is preparing for an internship in Thailand and needs advice on the new ED visa requirement that requests proof of accommodation for the entire 12-week stay. The user is concerned about booking accommodation in advance due to uncertainties surrounding entry into Thailand. Community members suggest various options, including booking refundable accommodations through platforms like Agoda or Airbnb, as well as considering the necessity of this requirement, given that it seems unusual for an internship.

ED is education. Isn't an internship like volunteer? What does your intern-company-lawyer advise?

Never heard of an ED visa requiring booked accomodations for 90 days. I'd just book an airbnb for a few days and edit the confirmation page to adjust your stay. Make absolutely no sense to book a place for 3 months in advance that you've never seen before.

Write hosts on AirBnB. They will have multiple places for rent (super hosts to start) and tell them your situation. They will let you book and then if you should have a problem will let you cancel.

Why not try booking with booking.com and cancel free if it all goes pear shaped with internship ?

Maybe get an Airbnb or one of the long stay monthly hotel plans, but get them refundable or “pay on arrival”. As far as I know, most of these requirements are there by law, but if you booked a refundable hotel, they will accept that. I maybe wrong, ask around for more info. But it’s just 12 weeks. Tourist visa is 60 days + 30 day extension. It’s almost the same duration.

First time I have heard of the requirements for an ED visa ie asking for proof of the whole stay. Possibly book with someone like Agoda where you can cancel up to about a week before arrival?
