Hi Everyone! I contacted the Thai embassy in Portugal today for the SETV visa and they told me I had to bring a proof of my 3 months stay. My plan was to decide where to stay after I get there not before. Did you guys had this request before? They told if I have a friend living there to ask his renting contract and passport copy! This does not sound right!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about the requirement for proof of a three-month stay for a SETV visa at the Thai embassy in Portugal, expressing disbelief at being asked for such documentation before arrival. Community members share various experiences with visa requirements, noting that most consulates only ask for short-term bookings, like 14 days, rather than the full visa duration. Some suggest booking options through platforms like booking.com or agoda, highlighting the importance of understanding changing requirements at different embassies.
I use booking.com and will usually book a few hotels in advance and twice this last year due to circumstances I have simply just cancelled them, no problem no monies required to book it's just a reservation although would you rather not actually have somewhere to stay the first day/ night you land ... it's what I usually do and can look around when there if you prefer another hotel
In 10 years in dealing with visa I have never seen a Thai visa from the Royal Thai Embassy in Portugal, so I guess it is very uncommon for them to issue them, hence they might have some unusual request. If you can not secure one you can still come here to get 30 day visa exempt and get a 30 day extension.
Dont use booking.com you will find that despite it saying free cancel when you get to the pay page it says below the enter credit card details but out of sight that the booking cant be cancelled try agoda instead
