I hold a Myanmar passport and I am currently applying for a DTV visa in Vientiane, Laos. I have received an email for an interview appointment on 15 May 2026.

The issue is that I entered Laos under the 14-day visa-free scheme, which will expire on 12 May 2026. What can I do in this situation? Can a Myanmar citizen extension for visa?

First time I hear deny first extantion...!! Did you try explain also still wait in Laos for apply Thai visa?

Ps. no idea if you go to Hanoi what happened..

But check how many time can came back in Laos with 14day free in one year.

Thanks for your suggestion.I went to the immigration office this morning, and the officer said I can’t extend my stay because I entered with a 14-day free visa. I already booked a flight to Hanoi for tomorrow. The issue is, do you think it will affect my visa application and interview on May 15, since I will leave and re-enter the country?

If you come with free visa it’s very hard for extension, mostly they don’t allow free visa for extension. There is 2 ways

1. pay the overstay fine at airport 10$ per day/100,000kip per day by land border.

2. You can exit by land to Vietnam and get another free visa 14 days

Thanks for your suggestion. Since an overstay stamp on our passport is very risky for us as Myanmar citizens. For the second option, if we leave Laos and come back again, will it affect our DTV application in any way?

In my case, I paid 1000 THB at Wattay International Airport for overstaying 3 days

You could take the risk for an overstay of 3 days and on the 15th after the appointement decide either go to Thailand or another country.

As the Free Bilateral Visa Exemption Entry into Laos Stay cannot be extended inside Laos, Apply for a Lao eVisa and do a Border Bounce (with another country besides Thailand), and at Lao Arrival Immigration, insist to use the Lao eVisa Entry and NOT the Free Bilateral Visa Exemption Entry

You could also try Lao Visa on Arrival (Lao VoA) Entry, but the Lao Immigration Officer at Arrival may not offer Lao VoA and give out another Free Bilateral Visa Exemption Entry vs. the same possible scenario with Lao eVisa, but more likely the Lao Immigration Officer would give Lao eVisa Entry to Myanmar Passport holders
