What should I do if my visa application for Thailand is not approved by my return flight date?

I have booked 7 nights in hotel and will submit application probably at the airport when I get my passport entry stamp.

Anyone advise if I'm not approved when my flight is supposed to go back to Thailand what I should do?

Do I need to still be in Vietnam until the application is approved or denied?

I thought I saw someone else saying they ended up having to do 2 trips?

Thanks heaps for any help with this.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a visa while in Vietnam and considering your return flight to Thailand, it is advised to remain in Vietnam until you obtain the approval for your visa application. Several commenters shared that visa processing can take around 5 to 7 days, excluding weekends, and there is a possibility that you may be required to attend an interview in person. If your application requires additional information, it can also delay the process. Thus, leaving the country before receiving your visa may complicate re-entry. It’s suggested to stay until the visa outcome is known, or alternatively, to book a one-way ticket to allow for flexibility.

It took ours 4 days excluding weekend and the application day.

Best to be in the country until you receive the outcome.

Get a one way ticket then you can stay as long as you want. Turn the trip into a holiday also.

Which is what I would do, but a one way ticket can be problematic. Airlines might not issue you a boarding pass. Vietnam generally demands proof of outbound travel if arriving for tourism purposes.

l go to Laos one way on plane then train out into Thailand no problem

No problem until an airline check-in agent demands on onward ticket. If anything it's better to exit Thailand by land and come back by air as you definitely won't need an onward ticket with a DTV visa.

if you explain you situation they will understand. You are just short stay and going back to Thailand. Flying in or out is dependent on time for me.

Depends. It might work, or it might not. You take the risk, but it comes down to the airline and who's on duty.

yeah I already booked a return but can change for a fee. Otherwise a one way to Bangkok wouldn't be too expensive

I applied in HCM on Monday, was approved next Monday. No extra documents requested. Similar for my husband. It took exactly 1 week for each of us.

Do you have to go to Vietnam whilst waiting for approval?

@Namfon *****
you must be there just in case they request an interview, for example. Otherwise everything is done online.

Did you apply for it through the website, or did you have to submit documents to the Loyal Embassy?

all online

They claim to process applications in 5 working days so 7 days may be a bit tight if they ask for additional information. That resets the clock at some consulates. I'd definitely recommend staying there until you know the outcome

and if in the airport they ask me for outbound ticket?

You should stay until it is approved as there is a chance albeit small of being asked to attend in person for an interview. If you leave and receive your DTV when in Thailand, you have to leave Thailand and reenter with the DTV.

I don't think anyone will be attending the consulate in person anymore. They will probably just ask for additional documents, which may extend the processing time.

HCMC regularly approves within 5 days so hopefully you the same, Double check you have submitted everything needed to avoid delays in asking for more documentation,
