Can I apply for a Thai visa in Vietnam while planning to travel to Cambodia before returning to Thailand?

I just left Thailand and am in Hanoi. I have until Nov. 29 until the Thai 60 day tourist visa expires. Would that be a problem?

I physically will be in HCMC too but I can only apply through Hanoi on the website since that's what my stamp says?

I wasn't planning on applying for the DTV on this trip but considering it. I'm going to Cambodia on Dec. 7. Would it be a problem if I apply for the visa in Vietnam and enter Cambodia a week later while awaiting approval? Or I have to be in the same country as the application when it's approved

Plan to enter Thailand again dec. 14. Trying to maximize the 5 years of validity. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Hanoi, having recently left Thailand, and is concerned about the expiration of their 60-day tourist visa. They seek clarification on whether they can apply for a visa from Hanoi while also being in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and if traveling to Cambodia impacts their visa application process for Thailand. They plan to re-enter Thailand in mid-December and aim to maximize the validity of their visa.

Did you enter Thailand on a 60 day visa that you bought at a Thai embassy outside of Thailand, or did you get a free 60 visa exempt entry stamp when you entered Thailand? If you bought a real visa and didn't get a re-entry permit before you left Thailand then you don't have a visa any more.

thanks. Yes it's just the free 60 day stamp when entering

If you are in HCMC then you need to apply through HCMC. See the websites for the areas served by the two consulates

even if my stamp says I entered through Hanoi? I am in Hanoi now but will be in HCMC later on.

Anonymous participant so apply in Hanoi while you are there. The stamp really just shows you are in the country, you can use a hotel receipt to show your actual location

yes I'm waiting on letters from my employer and gathering docs. I wasn't planning on applying during this trip but decided last minute to do it while in Vietnam and not in Malaysia. Would prefer to wait towards the end of my trip in VN to maximize the 5 years but I guess that's a future problem to worry about 😅

Anonymous participant ha ha. It's 5 years, a couple of weeks won't make much difference
