Hi,

I need your help. About Thai education visa. I am holder of education visa, initial 90 days and school terminated it with today date ( because I wrote 3* review). What's are my options? When I need to go to immigration? How long I have to leave country? Can I start study in different school?

Do you have recommendation for Thai language school in some smaller city in isaan or north Thailand?

Currently I am In chiang mai, but I don't like this city.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing issues with their Thai education visa after their school terminated it following a negative review. They seek guidance on their options, including how long they can stay in the country, the immigration process, and whether they can enroll in another school. Various comments clarify that if the user is on an initial 90-day visa, they can remain until the expiry of that visa, as schools cannot cancel visas. Recommendations are offered for checking visa conditions, deleting the review, and exploring language schools in smaller cities. Concerns about negative reviews leading to legal issues in Thailand are also discussed.

Why would you even leave a review on someone that has control over your ability to stay in a country... 🤣

Negative reviews are dangerous in Thailand. An American wrote a negative review of a hotel restaurant in Koh Chang on Trip Advisor and was jailed. The story made the New York Times, Bangkok Post and the Manchester Guardian (see link to article from the Manchester Guardian). The New York Times is now doing a series of articles on the draconian use of Thai criminal defamation laws. Its a serious and dangerous problem.

you can consider checking with SLS Language School . They provide very good service for visa matters and very good teachers too. I’ve been learning Thai there since Aug 2023. So far, so good.

How did you get ED instead on Non-ED for language courses?👀

Register at a new college but good luck what does it say in Thai ?

I hold a student visa Apply to study at MCU Extend visa once a year for 1900 baht, that's it.

how much was the visa all together. Thinking about doing it. Did you do for yourself or school did it

@Eric ******
Or is there a better way. In Bangkok or Chiang Mai or Phuket, there are Thai language schools for foreigners. You just apply to study and extend your visa but you don't have to go to study. The school will issue a visa extension form for you. Or signing up for a Muay Thai gym is easy. You just have to know a good place.

It is a university where monks and laypeople study together. There are many branches in other provinces and the main branch is in Ayutthaya. I just hold a student visa and apply to study for a bachelor's or master's degree at that university. And when the visa is about to expire, the university will issue a certificate to confirm that you are actually studying here. We just hold that certificate and residence permit to extend our visa for 1 year. and report every 3 months. That is, there are regular classes (cheap tuition) and classes only on Saturdays and Sundays (but the tuition is expensive). For me, I studied English for 4 years (regular ) and spent only 45k Baht on tuition. I currently have a bachelor's degree. But I continued my studies one more degree and waited for my time. Hopefully next year I'll go to Paris.

May I ask what school that was?

Sad this is the price of less than perfect reviews. It’s better to say nothing….
Anna *****************
It depends with school that help you submit the documents? To get extension you need to find a school to register and submit documents, you should have at least 30 more day to do documents

I think you can get a 7 day emergency visa or you can do a border bounce.

- Hi mate, sorry I can't answer your question but could you answer mine? Once your ED VISA was approved was there a due time where you had to be in Thailand to activate it

remember, if you are in cert School, not university, they have 60days for prepare extension.

@Scott *****
you should be in your school 7 days after visa received
Brandon ************
@Scott *****
a non-ED is valid for 90 days from the day it's issued. The date will be on the visa itself. You must use it by that date on the visa.

That’s a good lesson for me to always write a 5-star review for a school, even if it’s a fake review !!

Delete your review, go back to the school and apologize for your misunderstanding. If you plead honestly enough maybe they let you enroll again.

yeah, normal process for school. Delete the review and try to re enroll. Or not, but not scammy.
Charles ********
@Anton *******
just for thought, its a well written review. The visa fee and extention costs are very normal, but you make it sound like a scam. Very 60 days extention for informal learning and immigration charges. It's also typical to charge for visa assistance, they have to prepare many documents and submit to MOE. That's a cost to the school not included in course work. It is sad that they took 60 days to get you your books though.

review is always littlebit subjective.

Before I studied master degree of comp. Engineering and had no hassle like this. Just every 90days tm30 online.

Mai pen rai, jen jai... Now I cooled down. Just at that moment when suddently they gave me termination for same day as I arrived there, I didn't know whats the options
Maxim ***********
@Anton *******
You are lucky to not get sued, because they have ground to sue given the misinformation of your review. Thai laws are very strict regarding defamation. Most school are similar to the one you ran into. You can't compare with University, but what you described is pretty standard (cost wise). For example, the 1.9k baht every 3 months is mandatory.
Anton ********

@Maxim **********
I just described my experience. Not lied, no misunderstanding. I wrote that 1.9k thb is for immigration, not for school.

Don't see any reason for sue.

For school was 2500 I had to pay to send me documents to foreign country, because they not prepare it in time, another 2500 for extension because I arrived in time they told me to come, another 2500 for books they stole from different school and they not provided them for me, 2500 for "visa support" where I had to fill 36pages and they false informed me, that I don't need appointment in embassy... But I didn't mentioned this in review
Charles ********
@Anton *******
if you do formal learning, like at university, then you can get 1 year visa.... Most Thai schools do not offer formal learning, that is why you have to get regularly extention. Set that as your expectation going forward getting a visa for learning Thai. You can look at university programs studying Thai if you want a formal learning.

@Manfred *********
Misunderstanding? 😂
Diane **********
Read your school contract & see what the visa conditions are, do either say anything about 'in case of termination'
Graham ******
@Diane *********
It still will not affect his visa stamp which is controlled by Immigration not the school (it would be different if on an extension)
John **********
Seems you are on the initial 90 day visa and not on an extension of stay so you can remain in Thailand until the expiry of that visa and will then have to leave the country
Graham ******
Your school cannot cancel your Visa, your current exit date (as long as it is not an extension of stay) is still your exit date
Alf ***********
@Bob *********
, wrong. He have to leave within 90 days of his arrival in Thailand.

The visa sticker don't have that information, but his entry stamp does.
Graham ******
@Bob *********
wrong, he had to enter by then
Bob **********
@Graham *****
correct he’ll have to exit when his stamp is finished

be fully aware that if you do not have the 90 day extensions in your passport, even though that initial visa is good for longer than that, you will be hassled at the border, and many were refused entry.

I am in Thailand now, already one month attending classes.

I just been worried, that I have to leave country immediately, which is hopefully not true. So I have time to find a new school and proceed with them. They will provide me all other info. Thank you guys
Graham ******
@Anton *******
your Visa entry stamp is still good for the full 90 days
Graham ******
@Anton *******
That means nothing once you enter Thailand, your stay is now governed by your entry stamp
Brandon ************
If you're on the initial 90 day visa, the school cannot terminate it as visas cannot be cancelled. You can stay until the end of your entry stamp. But if you're on an extension which means the stamp in your passport says "extension of stay" then you must leave today and you'll also need to cancel your extension with immigration.

@Brandon ***********
Thx, that's why I specified that it's initial 90days
Brandon ************
@Anton *******
then your school can say whatever they want but the reality is that you can stay until the end of your current stamp. But you'll definitely need to leave and return if you want more time.
