Hello fellow expats. I have lived in Thailand nearly 5 years and working with NonB Visa from my international school.

My Situation:

I was let go from my school and on February 28 the school will cancel my Work Permit and Visa.

I need to stay in Thailand until end of April. I have a USA passport.

My questions:

1) I was told by my school that they can cancel my Work Permit and Visa without me needing to go with them to Immigration. Is this true? I don't need to go to Immigration myself to cancel my Visa?

2) If my school cancels my Visa on February 28, I want to know what day is acceptable by immigration for me to do a Border Run to get 30 days Visa and extend another 30 days. (Total of 60 days)

What should I do a Border Run?

a) Feb 27, Day before school cancels my NonB

b) Feb 28, Same day school cancels my NonB.

c) Mar 2, The Monday after my School cancels my NonB

Or maybe any of those dates are okay? What do you recommend?

Thank you in advance for your help. And if you have questions I will gladly do my best to answer from what Ive learned.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on the cancellation of their Non-B Visa and Work Permit after being let go from their international school. They inquire about whether the school can independently cancel their visa without the user's presence and seek clarification on the best timing for a border run to maximize their stay in Thailand.

Theres a form from the ministry of labour your school can use to cancel your wp, just make it ffill by a school's officer and signed by the director.

Thank you.

He can cancel in advance, if he goes 24 Feb he has 4 days to prepare or he can ask the school to put 1 March on the letter of ending contract to have an extra day for travel. Saves the 1.900 Thb for a big stamp with the text Application NOT approved.

Could be different at the offices in your area, but normally the work permit and letter of company to Ministry of Labor, and letter cancelling the Work Permit from ministry of labor, company letter and passport for Immigration.

Okay Thank you. And final questions.

When I go to Labour Office what documents do I need to bring to cancel my Work Permit?

When I go to Immigration Office, what documents do I need to cancel NonB Visa?
Robert *******
Than go on 26 to one office, go on 27 to next office and leave on 28.

Okay. But that means I would have to travel to Labour Office and Immigration Office same day.

I don't think I'd have enough time to do both on same day.
Robert *******
Yes, but most Immigration Offices want to see the documents that your Work Permit is also cancelled on that day, but that can also be done on 27th.

The school will not put March 1. They already set it at Feb 28.

Is this a solution:

I go by myself to cancel my Visa on February 27.

Then I do a border run on February 28.

Will that work?

When YOU cancel your Extension (if that is want you have) you can buy a 7-day 'extension' for 1,900 baht to give you time to organise your departure. Otherwise, you have to leave on the day you cancel your Extension.

Okay. So I should insist on going with my School on February 28 to cancel. Then I can do a border run on Saturday February 29 and return with a 30 day extension of stay.

Is this correct?
Robert *******
1) NO, it is your work permit and your passport. It is your responsibility.

2) What type of stay let you be inside Thailand? a Visa and doing every 90 days a visa run or an stamp from Immigration with the text Extension of Stay permitted up to ../../..

3) The day that is stamped as your last day permitted up to when you cancel your Extension of Stay OR the day as Admitted until ../../.. if you have a visa.
Robert *******
Advice: Join the school to Immigration if all get cancelled on 28 Feb, apply for a new Extension of Stay, this will be not approved and stamped in your passport, you get 7 days to leave the country, application fees of 1.900 thb stay the same.

OR go in advance as described below.

If the school cancel on Feb 28 you need to leave the country on Feb 28. It is your passport, unless you hand over your passport to an employee of the school and let them cancel it but than it is out of your control.

1) Okay. Wow so my school needs me to go with them?

The school said no need for me to go and cancel, that they will go themselves to cancel it. And I can do Border Run before March 3.

2) I have a NonB Visa stamp from Immigration allowing me to stay.. /.. /..

But the school will cancel it on Feb 28.
