I applied for a non O retirement visa 3 weeks ago, from Canberra Australia, got confirmation of payment, but since then only silence… I leave for Thailand in 10 days… should I get worried and follow up on the phone?

Any suggestions how to get a response, they have ignored my follow up emails. Thank you
Answer summary
A user expressed concern about the delay in processing their Non-O retirement visa application, submitted three weeks prior, as they prepare to leave for Thailand in ten days. Despite confirming payment, they have not received any updates and their follow-up emails went unanswered. Comments from the community suggest that it's advisable to call the consulate for updates, though responses may be minimal. Experiences shared indicate that some applicants received their visas just before traveling, highlighting the uncertainty involved in the process. Community members recommend having a backup plan, like a flexible flight or an extension option, in case the visa doesn't arrive on time.

This question comes up all the time . Just wait it out . They won't reply to emails and they won't answer calls . I received mine on a Friday and flew out Sunday. Stressfull but it comes . Sit back and relax

They favour unorganized people who apply a few days in advance and let the organized ones get migraines, worrying about it.

Applied 01-09 for tourist visa Sydney consulate. Sent them an email about 3 weeks in. They did reply with a generic email which said they dont do info updates, but if I dont receive the visa in time, just take the 30 days on arrival and extend.

I landed Phuket 30th with 30 day on arrival.

They only looked at the visa a day later 01-10 with a request for a letter of invitation from my Thai host (wife of 32 years). Or if you have entered Thailand already dont add docs, add photo of entry stamp.

They then farted around with it in pending doc check for another 9 days then to pending approval last Friday to be cancelled on Sunday. No reason given I assume it was because I was already in Thailand.

Visa's were far easier prior to this evisa thing

Anton Fick when you applied for your visa you must have opened an account using your email & a password. Go into the e visa website & log in. Scroll down & click on submitted & have a look. If I can do it anyone can

They work on a 'just in time' basis, and tend to not answer their phones, not reply to emails or messages.

Yes, a few years ago I applied for an OA visa. It arrived the day before I was due to fly and I'd already changed my ticket. 🤬

Mine took about five weeks only because I had to send them more documents. Regardless I booked a flexi flight that stayed within the 60 days at the time as tourist. This was my backup if the visa didn't arrive on time. Fortunately I received an hour before my flight to bkk

Anton Fick yep, I think when they go through the options and that there are 2 extensions related to visa's.

You will need to try them a few times as you are unable to leave a message

In my experience, call them on the phone and ask politely if they have an update as you are preparing to travel. They will brush you off with essentially “it will happen when it happens,” but your application will likely be miraculously looked at anyway and if there if anything else they need, you will be asked for it same day or next day.
