What should I do if my husband's bank balance dropped below 500,000 Baht while applying for my spousal DTV visa?

ORIGINAL POSTER
My husband got his DTV visa over 2 months ago and we have moved from Hong Kong to Thailand.

Yesterday I applied for my spousal DTV visa in Hong Kong, submitted all required documents and my personal bank statements for 6 months which exceeds 500,000Baht.

Within 4 hours of submission I was asked for my husband’s bank statements for the past 3 months, which is since he was approved for the DTV. With covering the coasts of an international move, shipping and flying our dogs over, his balance has dropped below the 500,000 Baht.

I’m hoping this won’t result in my application being rejected even though I have my own accounts with more than the required minimums for the both of us. Feeling worried 😟

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the author's concern about the spousal DTV visa application process after moving from Hong Kong to Thailand. After submitting her application and providing personal bank statements that meet the financial requirement, she was asked for her husband's bank statements, which have now dropped below the minimum balance of 500,000 Baht due to moving expenses. The author seeks guidance on how this might affect her application and expresses worry about a potential rejection, despite her own financial stability.

No snarky comments???

If its a Tuesday or Thursday and not raining you will be fine. Wednesday and cloudy you’re back on a plane to HK :). Kidding aside…

So for you, when you submitted the 6 months worth of bank statements, did each month have to total
*****
0 baht or could all 6 months of statements add up to

0 baht?

it varies among the different embassies. Some request 3 month bank statements, some 6 month. Some requier that the amount has been there the whole time while others accept if the balance is over 500k thb on the day of application.

Don’t let that answer deter you! It depends on who you go through. You don’t need to have it in there for all 6 month. I’ve heard MANY PEOPLE say they transferred the money the day of and got approved.

So when you apply as a dependent, does it ask for your account balance, or your sponsors ?

The HK Consulate website only required our Marriage Certificate and my husband's DTV and sponsorship letter. I provided my bank statements on top.

sounds like you might have to wait 3 months, as they’re clearly basing it on what’s in the hubby’s account, as ridiculous as that sounds. Just depends how much common sense the consulate has. Maybe they’d be ok if you topped up his account. If possible, I’d call them and ask.

As it’s a spousal DTV it’s your husband’s bank statements that must be submitted showing the required amounts

not necessarily so. Me and my wife applied for dependant DTV in HK and they didn’t request the bank statements of the other person, just the statements of the person applying for the dependant DTV. Seems random based on who is processing the application.

Use an investment account if you have one? Or maybe top your husband account up to the required amount with a note explaining why the dip in funds.

Seems a bit strange, my wife and I have the same DTV with spousal and never had this issue.

What's his ballpark balance? I'd add a brief note along with the statement explaining the balance dip due to initial moving costs and refer to/resubmit your personal 500k balance that isn't requiring sponsorship from your husband.

in future, (hopefully unnecessary) I'd pick a nearby consulate that processes lots of applications and proven track record if possible. HK embassy seems to be a bit of a stickler in my mind.

there is no guidelines saying the 500k can't be touched or must stay in place and of course Thailand would love you to spend it in country. If you can briefly allude in your note to the points I made in my initial post highlighting your financial independence, hopefully they won't singularly depend on his balance. What entry scheme was he using, freelance or remote work etc?

What were the benefits of a spousal DTV rather than a totally separate application?

No need for dependant to comply with primary requirement, only need for financial requirement which sounds logical because dependant will also have cost of living.
