Hi all, I applied to renew my marriage visa last week and will get it on September 3rd. Hypothetically, my father, who is 93 and ill, was taken into the hospital today, but I'm not allowed to leave as I won't get my visa. There's a chance he will pass away. Is there a way around this? Cheers all.
Answer summary
A user is facing a family emergency with their ill father but cannot leave Thailand to be with him because they are awaiting the approval of their marriage visa extension until September 3rd. The community offers suggestions, including visiting the immigration office for possible extension of the 'under consideration' stamp, obtaining a re-entry permit if they decide to leave, or starting a new visa application if they miss the appointment. There is general sympathy for the user's situation, emphasizing the importance of addressing their family's needs.

best of luck with it, they'll either help you OR you will just let this stamp expire if you're out of the country, then get a new Non-O visa before you come back online thru the thai consulate, come in get 90 days, then 2 months later apply for a new yearly extension. Not much you can do about it

If extension of the under consideration is not agreeable for immigration you can just get re-entry permit and travel.

It’s ok as long as you return by September 3rd and make your appointment.

Or if you stay longer then apply non-O visa from your home country and apply the annual extension again once back.

I agree you have enough on your plate. Taking care of pops right now whatever happens will happen if you don’t make it back you just get your non-o in your home country. Start over. 🙏🙏🙏

The under consideration period can be extended, its discretion and immigration are likely to be sympathetic to your circumstances, but as Tod says take your Thai wife.

So now you're on an under consideration stamp and report back on Sept 3 to get that year extension inked in?

All you can do is go (with your thai wife) to your immigration office and see if they can either expedite the under consideration (unlikely) OR if they can give you more time on the under consideration stamp (i have seen this happen)

Other than that, if you have to leave the country before you "close the loop" (get the year extension inked in) you'd lose this application and when you come back you'd have to start all over with a new Non-O and then a year extension.

I had almost this same thing happen. They refused to extend or expedite it. So I ended up having to completely re do everything when I came back. Was a massive pain. And seemed quite unfair as well.

If, they "extend" your under consideration stamp (give you more time on it before you go back to get the year extension inked in) remember to buy a re-entry permit so you can leave/come back without losing that stamp
